Borderlands 4 Update 1.8 Brings Cross-Platform Saves, New Endgame Challenge, and Upcoming Vault Hunter

Gearbox and 2K Games have outlined the next phase of content planned for Borderlands 4, revealing a mix of free updates and paid expansions scheduled to arrive over the next few months. The first major update, Version 1.8, is set to launch on June 26 and introduces several requested features, additional endgame activities, fresh loot, and gameplay improvements.

The biggest addition in Update 1.8 is cross-platform save support. Players will be able to move their progress between supported platforms through their SHiFT accounts, making it easier to continue a playthrough on different devices. Save files can be manually synchronized through the in-game SHiFT interface. Gearbox also noted that Golden Keys will remain tied to the platform on which they were redeemed and will not transfer between systems.

A large portion of the free update is focused on expanding endgame content. All Borderlands 4 players will gain access to Takedown at Hadron Abyss, a new challenge set within an underwater research facility. The activity concludes with a battle against the Child of Terramorphous and is designed for players looking for tougher encounters after completing the main campaign.

Update 1.8 will also introduce:

  • Takedown at Hadron Abyss endgame activity
  • A new raid boss encounter
  • A new mini-boss battle
  • Nine new Legendary items
  • One new Pearlescent item
  • Additional challenge-based cosmetics
  • Performance improvements and bug fixes
  • Vault Hunter balance adjustments

Alongside the free content update, Gearbox has confirmed several paid DLC releases. Bounty Pack 3: A Zane to Kill For launches on June 25 and follows a mystery involving the death of Zane’s clone. The expansion includes a new mission, a boss encounter, two mini-bosses, new Legendary and Pearlescent gear, a vehicle, a Vault Hunter skill, and an Echo-4 drone skin.

Bounty Pack 4: Murders & Acquisitions is scheduled for July 30 and adds another mission, a new boss, three mini-boss encounters, a vehicle, and cosmetic rewards.

The most anticipated addition may arrive in early September with Story Pack 2, which introduces a new playable Vault Hunter named Loveless. Described as a former Anshin hacker enhanced with cybernetic technology, Loveless shares her consciousness with a digital virus capable of manifesting through digistruct technology. Gearbox has only released a brief teaser and character artwork so far, leaving many details about her abilities undisclosed.

Upcoming paid content includes:

  • Bounty Pack 3: A Zane to Kill For – June 25
  • Bounty Pack 4: Murders & Acquisitions – July 30
  • Story Pack 2 – Early September
  • Bounty Pack 5 – Early September
  • New Vault Hunter Loveless
  • Additional vehicles, gear, bosses, and cosmetics

Pricing details reveal that Bounty Pack 3’s story content and gear will cost $5.99, while Vault Card 3 will be available separately for another $5.99. Players interested in Loveless can purchase the character and related cosmetics for $9.99, while Story Pack 2’s narrative expansion will be priced at $19.99.

With cross-platform saves finally arriving and a steady flow of new content planned through September, Borderlands 4 players can expect more endgame challenges, additional loot opportunities, and a new Vault Hunter to expand their gameplay options in the months ahead.
