Resident Evil: Veronica Remake has been officially revealed as the next major remake in CAPCOM’s long-running survival-horror franchise, with a planned release window set for 2027 across PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X PS5 Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2. The announcement arrived during Summer Game Fest, where the reveal trailer confirmed the project but kept gameplay details limited, focusing mainly on the return of Claire Redfield and the updated visual direction.
The game revisits the original Dreamcast-era release Resident Evil Code: Veronica, one of the more story-heavy entries in the franchise. While the remake keeps its core premise intact, early reports suggest CAPCOM is reworking large parts of the structure instead of delivering a strict one-to-one recreation. According to industry insider comments, the development approach leans toward reshuffling and reimagining key segments rather than cutting content entirely, which points toward a modernized narrative flow designed for current-generation hardware and pacing expectations.
One of the most discussed details following the reveal is the camera perspective. Unlike Resident Evil Requiem, which allowed players to switch between first-person and third-person views, Resident Evil Veronica is reportedly locked to a third-person perspective. This places it closer to the style used in the Resident Evil 4 remake, suggesting CAPCOM is prioritizing a more cinematic over-the-shoulder presentation for combat and exploration.
The story remains centered on Claire Redfield, who travels to Paris to investigate an Umbrella Corporation facility in search of her brother Chris Redfield. However, the mission quickly turns into a capture-and-survival scenario after she is detained by Umbrella Special Forces and transported to the isolated Rockfort Island. From there, players are expected to face a hostile outbreak involving both zombies and experimental bioweapons tied to Umbrella’s operations.

In the original release, the narrative also shifted to Antarctica in its later stages, a segment that fans have long considered a defining part of the experience. The current official description, however, highlights only Rockfort Island, prompting speculation that the remake may restructure this portion or integrate it differently into the overall progression. CAPCOM has not confirmed whether Antarctica will remain unchanged, expanded, or condensed.
Key details so far:
- Resident Evil: Veronica announced as a full remake of Code: Veronica
- Launch planned for 2027 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2
- Third-person only gameplay, no first-person option reported
- Story restructured with remixed and repositioned segments
- Focus on Claire Redfield’s infiltration of Umbrella and survival on Rockfort Island
- Antarctica section status is currently unclear

- CAPCOM is expected to share deeper gameplay details closer to release
The project was briefly teased during Summer Game Fest with a short trailer that ended with a modern recreation of Claire Redfield, confirming the title drop of “Code” from the original name. While the reveal was minimal, it signals that CAPCOM is continuing its focus on revisiting classic Resident Evil entries following the success of recent remakes and mainline releases.
At this stage, the release window remains broad, with 2027 being the only official timeframe. Based on CAPCOM’s recent marketing approach with earlier titles, more detailed gameplay showcases and system reveals are expected to roll out closer to launch.
