Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship mobile chipset, tentatively named Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, has surfaced in new leaks from Digital Chat Station (DCS), a well-known source of pre-release information on Qualcomm products. The latest details, shared via the Chinese social media platform Weibo, provide insight into the expected specifications and architecture of the next-generation SoC.
The leaked information reiterates that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 carries the internal identifier “SM8850.” According to DCS, Qualcomm has opted for TSMC’s 3 nm “N3P” process node for this chip, which aligns with earlier industry speculation. If Qualcomm follows its typical release schedule, an official announcement for the new chipset could take place as early as October.
The first-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite series introduced Qualcomm’s “Oryon” CPU cores—also known as “Phoenix”—alongside the Adreno 830 GPU. The upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 is expected to retain a “2 + 6” core configuration, featuring two high-performance cores and six additional performance-focused cores. The GPU is expected to receive an upgrade as well, with reports pointing to the inclusion of an Adreno 840 graphics processor.
One of the more notable aspects of the leak is the mention of “Pegasus” cores, which are rumored to be the next iteration following Phoenix. While some previous reports suggested that these upgraded cores could reach clock speeds of up to 5.0 GHz, current Snapdragon 8 Elite processors operate at a peak of 4.47 GHz.
DCS also shared information about Qualcomm’s second-generation custom CPU architecture, stating that the new chip has a “performance setting of over 380 W+.” This could indicate improvements in power management and computational efficiency. Additionally, industry sources predict that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 will achieve scores exceeding 3.8 million points on AnTuTu V10 benchmark tests.
Another key detail is the reported support for Arm’s Scalable Matrix Extension 1 (SME 1) and Scalable Vector Extension 2 (SVE2) instruction sets. If accurate, these enhancements could improve AI processing, computational workloads, and overall efficiency across various applications.
While Qualcomm has yet to confirm these details, the frequency of leaks and past accuracy of DCS suggest that many of these specifications could be close to final. With an expected release window in Q4 2025, more concrete information about the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 will likely emerge in the coming months.
