Xiaomi Opens Pre-Orders for Its First NAS, Starting at Around $400

Xiaomi is entering the NAS market with a price that could catch the attention of users looking for a home storage solution without moving into more expensive Synology or QNAP territory. The company has now opened pre-orders for its first network-attached storage device, the Xiaomi Smart Storage, with prices starting at CNY 2,699, or roughly $400, for a version equipped with 4TB of storage.

The device is designed for users who want centralized storage for files, photos, videos, phone backups, and smart home recordings. Xiaomi is also offering higher-capacity versions, including an 8TB model for CNY 3,499 and a 16TB version for CNY 5,499.

The Xiaomi Smart Storage can support up to two 30TB drives, giving it a maximum potential capacity of 60TB. That should make it suitable for users with large media libraries, security camera recordings, or multiple devices requiring centralized backup storage.

At its core, the NAS uses a Realtek RTD1619B quad-core Arm processor paired with 4GB of memory and 32GB of internal storage. Xiaomi has also included a 2.5GbE Ethernet port, which should provide significantly faster network transfer speeds than standard Gigabit Ethernet when used with compatible networking hardware.

The hardware also includes HDMI and USB-A connectivity. Xiaomi has positioned the device as part of its wider ecosystem rather than simply a network drive. Compatible Xiaomi cameras can store recordings directly on the NAS, while Xiaomi smartphone users can back up and access files through the company’s software.

For users already invested in Xiaomi’s ecosystem, this could be one of the more interesting parts of the product. Instead of relying entirely on cloud storage subscriptions, the Smart Storage provides a local option for storing personal files and camera footage.

Xiaomi is also selling an optional UPS accessory for CNY 349, or around $52, offering backup power protection during outages. This could be particularly useful for preventing sudden shutdowns and protecting stored data when the NAS is running continuously.

The current pre-order price is higher than the crowdfunding price announced earlier. Xiaomi previously offered the entry-level 4TB version for CNY 2,299 during its crowdfunding campaign, while the same capacity tier is now listed from CNY 2,699 ahead of the August 27 sales date.

For now, Xiaomi’s first NAS is limited to the Chinese market, and the company has not announced international availability. Still, with 60TB capacity support, 2.5GbE networking, local camera recording, smartphone backups, and integration with Xiaomi’s smart home platform, the Smart Storage could become a competitive option if Xiaomi decides to launch it globally.

  • Up to 60TB total storage support
  • Two SATA drive bays
  • Compatible with 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch drives
  • Realtek RTD1619B quad-core ARM processor
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 32GB of internal storage
  • 2.5GbE Ethernet connectivity
  • HDMI output
  • USB-A connectivity
  • Xiaomi smart home integration
  • Direct recording support for compatible Xiaomi cameras
  • Smartphone backup and file access features

The biggest question is whether Xiaomi can offer the same level of software support, reliability, and long-term updates expected from established NAS brands. On paper, however, the company’s first NAS brings a strong mix of hardware and ecosystem features at a price that could appeal to home users looking to build their own private storage setup.
