Nintendo has officially announced the release date for its next-generation console, the Nintendo Switch 2. The system will launch globally on June 5th, confirming previous reports that pointed to an early summer release.
Upgraded Hardware and Display Features

The Nintendo Switch 2 brings several hardware improvements over its predecessor. The console is equipped with a 7.9-inch LCD screen with a 1080p resolution, supporting HDR and a 120Hz refresh rate. This marks a significant upgrade from the original Switch’s 720p display, offering smoother visuals and improved color accuracy. When docked, the system will support up to 4K resolution for compatible games, along with HDR functionality. The new dock also features a built-in cooling fan to maintain system performance during extended play sessions.
Expanded Storage and Connectivity

Nintendo has addressed storage limitations with the Switch 2, equipping the console with 256GB of internal storage—eight times the capacity of the original model. Additionally, the system includes two USB-C ports, one on the top and another on the bottom. These ports will support accessories such as the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2 camera and will allow charging while using tabletop mode.
Enhanced Joy-Con and Pro Controller Features

The redesigned Joy-Con controllers now attach magnetically to the console and introduce new functionality. A key addition is mouse-like input support for both left and right controllers, enhancing precision for certain games. A new “C” button provides quick access to GameChat, a built-in voice chat system that leverages the console’s microphone and the optional Switch 2 camera. GameChat will be free for all Switch 2 users until March 31st, 2026, after which it will become part of Nintendo Switch Online.
The Pro Controller 2 also sees improvements, now featuring a headphone jack and two programmable back buttons, adding more customization options for players.
Improved Audio and Sound Capabilities
Nintendo has upgraded the console’s built-in speakers, promising clearer and richer audio for handheld mode. Additionally, the system introduces 3D audio support, further enhancing immersion in supported games.
Pricing and Availability
Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will retail for $449.99 in the U.S. and €469.99 in Europe. This is slightly higher than some early estimates but aligns with the hardware improvements introduced. With its worldwide release set for June 5th, the Nintendo Switch 2 aims to deliver a more powerful and versatile gaming experience while retaining the hybrid design that made its predecessor a success.
