ASUS has revealed the ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme, its latest high-end motherboard for AMD’s Socket AM5 platform. This model expands the company’s AMD 800-series lineup, which previously included the ROG Crosshair X870E Hero and the ROG Crosshair X870E Apex. Designed for high-performance gaming and overclocking, it competes with premium models like the MSI MEG X870E Godlike and the GIGABYTE X870E AORUS Xtreme.
Power and VRM Design
The motherboard is built in the E-ATX form factor and requires a 24-pin ATX power connector, two 8-pin EPS connectors, and an additional 8-pin PCIe power input. ASUS has integrated its most advanced CPU VRM solution for AMD platforms, surpassing even the 22-phase power design found on the Hero model. This ensures reliable power delivery for high-performance Ryzen processors, including the Ryzen 9000X3D series.

Cooling and Connectivity
The board includes multiple 4-pin PWM fan and water pump headers to support diverse cooling configurations. It offers one onboard M.2-22110 Gen 5 slot with a heat pipe-based cooler, along with a second Gen 5 and two Gen 4 M.2 slots. A DIMM.2 module provides additional storage expansion.

For expansion, the motherboard features a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot and a secondary PCIe 4.0 x4 (physical x16) slot. The rear I/O panel includes dual 40 Gbps USB4 ports, 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, and multiple 10 Gbps and 5 Gbps USB 3.2 ports.
Networking and Audio
Networking options include Wi-Fi 7, a 10 GbE port, and an additional 5 GbE port. The onboard audio solution likely includes a Realtek ALC4082 codec, an ESS ES9219 DAC for front audio channels, an operational amplifier, and high-quality capacitors.
Overclocking Features and Display Panel
The ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme includes various overclocking features seen in ASUS’s high-end ROG Maximus Extreme series. A notable feature is the 4-inch color display positioned over the VRM heatsinks, which can be customized to display system information or user-defined content.
Availability and Pricing
ASUS has not yet announced pricing or release details for the ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme. With its extensive feature set, it is expected to be positioned among the top AM5 motherboards. More details will be available as ASUS provides further updates.
