MSI Unveils MPG B850I EDGE TI WIFI Mini-ITX Motherboard for AMD AM5 Platform

MSI has quietly added a new Mini-ITX motherboard to its lineup with the MSI MPG B850I EDGE TI WIFI, designed around the AMD B850 chipset and the AM5 socket. The compact board brings a wide range of modern features to small form factor builds, with support for the latest AMD Ryzen processors and high-speed components.

Built for performance in limited space, the MPG B850I EDGE TI WIFI uses an 8+2+1 phase digital VRM design with 90 A SPS DrMOS power stages. It draws power through a single 8-pin EPS connector and is based on a 10-layer PCB that incorporates 2oz copper layers to improve electrical performance and heat dissipation.

The board supports DDR5 memory at speeds of up to 8200 MT/s. It has two DIMM slots in a single-DIMM-per-channel layout, which helps in achieving higher memory frequencies. Storage expansion is handled by two M.2 slots and two SATA III ports. The primary M.2 slot is front-mounted and connected directly to the CPU with PCIe 5.0×4 bandwidth. It also includes a small cooling fan to manage the heat from high-speed SSDs. The secondary M.2 slot is mounted on the rear and uses PCIe 4.0×4 lanes routed through the chipset. For users needing traditional storage options, the board includes two SATA ports.

GPU connectivity is provided via a single PCIe 5.0×16 slot, also wired to the CPU. This allows the board to support modern graphics cards at full bandwidth despite the space constraints of the Mini-ITX form factor.

Networking options are one of the standout features of the MPG B850I EDGE TI WIFI. It includes a 5 GbE wired LAN port driven by a Realtek RTK8126 controller. For wireless connectivity, MSI has equipped the board with support for Wi-Fi 7, offering theoretical speeds up to 5.8 Gbps on 320 MHz channels, as well as Bluetooth 5.4 support.

On the audio side, the board features the Realtek ALC4080 codec for onboard sound. Rear I/O includes a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C port capable of 20 Gbps, along with multiple USB-A ports offering various speeds. There is also a 10 Gbps USB-C front-panel header. For display output, the board includes an HDMI 2.1 FRL port. Digital audio output is available through an S/PDIF connector, and dual antenna connectors are present for wireless signal transmission.

MSI has not yet announced the official price or availability for the MPG B850I EDGE TI WIFI. However, considering that the ATX version of the B850 EDGE is priced around $310 at retail, the Mini-ITX version is expected to launch at a lower price point, likely in the $225 range, depending on region and market conditions.

The MPG B850I EDGE TI WIFI appears to be aimed at enthusiasts and compact PC builders looking for a feature-rich Mini-ITX option with support for AMD’s latest platform technologies.
