Hori Unveils Nintendo Switch 2 Camera Peripheral Featuring Piranha Plant Design

Hori has announced a new accessory for the Nintendo Switch 2 – a character-themed camera that combines functionality with a familiar design from the Super Mario series. The newly revealed “Hori Switch 2 Camera” is officially licensed by Nintendo and features the distinctive look of the Piranha Plant, a recurring character in the Mario franchise.

The accessory is designed with both form and function in mind. The camera lens is placed inside the Piranha Plant’s mouth, allowing the user to physically open or close the mouth depending on whether the camera is in use. When closed, the camera is fully covered, providing a simple solution for users concerned about privacy without relying on digital methods or separate lens covers.

Hori has incorporated a modular structure into the design. The flower pot base, which completes the Piranha Plant look, can be detached from the main camera unit. Once removed, the camera itself can be plugged directly into the USB-C port on the Switch 2 console. This feature enables easy setup and use during handheld mode, making it convenient for video chat or other future camera-supported applications on the device.

The decision to use the Piranha Plant design appears to align with Nintendo’s recent trend of incorporating familiar game elements into official accessories. Since the product carries Nintendo’s official license, Hori was able to include detailed character features without restrictions. The use of the Piranha Plant is not just a cosmetic touch, but also serves as a creative way to house the camera in a playful yet purposeful design.

As of now, the Hori Switch 2 Camera is listed for pre-order through select online retailers in international markets. The retail price is set at €39.99. While the accessory has generated interest due to its combination of utility and game-themed design, Hori has not provided a confirmed release or shipping date. Customers who place pre-orders may need to wait for additional updates regarding availability.

This camera peripheral adds to Hori’s existing lineup of Nintendo-compatible accessories, many of which focus on blending character themes with practical gaming needs. It remains to be seen whether this release signals a broader range of character-based peripherals for the Switch 2 platform, but the combination of official licensing and functional hardware points to continued collaboration between Nintendo and third-party accessory makers.
