ASUS ROG and XREAL Open Global Pre-Orders for ROG XREAL R1 Gaming AR Glasses

ASUS Republic of Gamers and XREAL have officially announced global pre-orders for the new ROG XREAL R1, a gaming-focused augmented reality headset developed for handheld and PC gaming platforms. The device was first introduced during CES 2026 and is now moving toward its worldwide launch after several months of software and hardware optimization.

The ROG XREAL R1 arrives with a heavy focus on immersive gaming and integration with the wider ROG ecosystem. ASUS says the glasses are compatible with multiple devices across PC, console, and handheld gaming markets, though the company specifically highlights enhanced functionality when paired with the ROG Ally lineup.

According to ASUS, the ROG XREAL R1 uses the world’s first 240 Hz micro-OLED panel designed for gaming AR glasses. The display system projects a virtual 171-inch screen with a 57-degree field of view, while the glasses reportedly cover up to 95 percent of the user’s focused vision area. ASUS also claims the headset delivers a 0.01 ms response time alongside 3 ms motion-to-photon latency for smoother gameplay and reduced motion blur.

The company has included multiple viewing modes aimed at improving comfort and immersion. Anchor Mode allows users to pin the virtual display to a fixed point in their environment, while Follow Mode keeps the display aligned with the user’s field of vision during movement. These features are powered by the XREAL X1 spatial computing chip, which also enables native Three Degrees of Freedom (3DoF) support.

The R1 introduces dual-screen support for the ROG Ally, allowing games to run through the AR glasses while the handheld’s native display stays available for system functions and quick-access controls. Through Armoury Crate SE, users can adjust brightness, virtual screen size, tint intensity, aspect ratio, frame-rate enhancement settings, and 3D mode options without interrupting gameplay.

ASUS has also introduced support for the new ROG Control Dock and DisplayWidget Center software on PC. The software suite allows users to manage virtual screen layouts, gaming overlays, and system-wide settings using a keyboard and mouse interface. Additional gaming tools include AI-assisted Dynamic Crosshairs, timers, and AI Visual technology that automatically adjusts image settings based on on-screen content.

The ROG XREAL R1 also features electrochromic lens technology that dynamically changes transparency levels depending on user activity. ASUS says the Electroceramic Dimming feature can detect when the user looks away from the anchored display and temporarily clear the lenses for improved environmental visibility. Users can also manually select between three tint levels or activate instant transparency mode with a single command.

Audio duties are handled through Sound by Bose technology, which ASUS says creates a three-dimensional soundstage intended to improve immersion and positional awareness during gaming sessions.

ASUS and XREAL have not yet confirmed complete regional pricing details for the ASUS ROG XREAL R1 Gaming AR Glasses, though global pre-orders are now available ahead of the official retail launch.
