HKC Unveils 43.8-Inch 24:9 Gaming Monitor With 5,760 × 2,160 Resolution and 24:9 Aspect Ratio

HKC is pushing the ultrawide monitor format in a direction few manufacturers have explored with the new Tianqi 43H180C, a 43.8-inch curved gaming monitor with a 24:9 aspect ratio and a 5,760 × 2,160 resolution. The combination gives the monitor far more horizontal pixels than a conventional 4K display while keeping the same 2,160-pixel vertical resolution.

The unusual resolution is one of the main reasons the Tianqi 43H180C stands out in an increasingly crowded gaming monitor market. Most large ultrawide displays use 21:9 or 32:9 formats, while other 43.8-inch models from brands such as Acer and INNOCN have generally used 3,840 × 1,080 resolutions. HKC’s new monitor instead pushes the horizontal resolution to 5,760 pixels, resulting in roughly 1.5 times the pixel count of a standard 3,840 × 2,160 4K display.

The monitor uses Mini LED backlighting, covers 99% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, and features a 1000R curvature. It also supports a refresh rate of up to 180Hz, giving it the specifications needed for high-refresh-rate gaming as well as general desktop use. However, some important panel details have not been confirmed yet. HKC has not revealed whether the display uses a VA or IPS panel, while the number of Mini LED local dimming zones is also unknown.

The 24:9 aspect ratio could make the monitor particularly useful for users who want a large desktop workspace without moving to a 32:9 super-ultrawide display. HKC has included several split-screen modes to take advantage of the additional horizontal space.

One mode divides the display into three 1,920 × 2,160 areas. Another combines a 4K-sized workspace with a 1,920 × 2,160 section. This could allow users to keep a main application on one side while using the remaining area for a timeline, chat window, browser, document, or monitoring software.

Connectivity is also designed with modern desktop setups in mind. The Tianqi 43H180C includes DisplayPort 2.1, USB-C with up to 96W power delivery, and KVM support. The USB-C connection could allow a compatible laptop to connect to the monitor while receiving power, and KVM support can simplify switching peripherals between two systems.

Gaming at 5,760 × 2,160, however, will require considerable graphics horsepower. The resolution has significantly more pixels than standard 4K, and reaching close to the monitor’s 180Hz refresh rate will be difficult in demanding games unless the system uses a powerful GPU and appropriate upscaling technology.

HKC has already shown that it is interested in unusual display formats. The company previously presented the 83.4-inch curved 12K Shield C83U60 at Computex, and the Tianqi 43H180C follows a similar approach on a much smaller scale.

For now, HKC has not announced pricing or availability for the Tianqi 43H180C. The missing panel and local-dimming specifications will also be important for determining how competitive the monitor will be once it reaches the market.
