The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake may finally have a release window after years of uncertainty. New reports suggest that Ubisoft is targeting a mid-January 2026 launch for the long-delayed project, potentially marking the franchise’s return to 3D action after a long break.
The information was shared during a recent episode of the Insider Gaming podcast, where industry reporter Tom Henderson discussed updates he received regarding the remake. Henderson has previously provided accurate insights into several Ubisoft projects, and according to him, the company is preparing for a release sometime in mid-January. Although he noted the internal target, he could not confirm when the game would be shown publicly again.
Henderson added that Ubisoft is currently planning a relatively short marketing cycle for the remake, with promotional activity expected to begin only a month before launch. Based on this timeline, a reveal during The Game Awards next week would align well with internal scheduling. However, there is no confirmation that the game will appear at the event. Henderson explained that Ubisoft could also choose a quieter approach, such as releasing a new trailer through its online channels in the coming days.
The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake has experienced a long and complicated development history. Announced in September 2020, the project was initially expected to launch in early 2021. After missing its planned release window, Ubisoft delayed the game indefinitely in February 2021. In 2022, the company confirmed that development had been restarted, with Ubisoft Montreal—the studio behind the original 2003 game—taking over production.

Even after the reboot, progress updates remained limited. It was not until November 2023 that Ubisoft confirmed a key milestone. A broader development update arrived in May 2024, when the company set an early 2026 launch target. The latest reports now narrow that window to mid-January, suggesting that the project may be approaching its final stages.
If the remake does launch in early 2026, it would continue the recent momentum for the Prince of Persia franchise. After a long period without major releases, Ubisoft revived the series with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown in January 2024, returning to a side-scrolling format. Later in August 2024, The Rogue Prince of Persia expanded the series with roguelike gameplay elements.
The Sands of Time remake would mark the franchise’s first major 3D entry in more than a decade, making its release a significant moment for long-time fans. As Ubisoft prepares for the final stretch of development, more details are expected to emerge in the weeks ahead.
