Sony has officially revealed Until Dawn 2 during its latest State of Play presentation, confirming that the horror franchise is returning to PlayStation 5 with a new story, new characters, and a different development team. The sequel is currently scheduled to launch in 2027 and is being developed by Firesprite Games, the studio known for Horizon: Call of the Mountain.
Unlike what some fans may have expected, Until Dawn 2 is not continuing the storyline from the original game. Instead, Firesprite is building a standalone horror experience that keeps the series’ choice-driven formula while introducing an entirely fresh setting and cast. According to details shared in a PlayStation Blog post, the game will focus on mystery, emotional conflict, difficult decisions, and horror scenarios that can change based on player actions.
The premise moves away from the snowy mountain setting and the Wendigo threat featured in the first title. This time, players will follow a group of young paranormal investigators who run a successful YouTube ghost-hunting channel. Their careers take a major turn after signing a deal with a television network, leading them to an abandoned tropical island where they are expected to film their first big-budget episode.
What begins as another planned production filled with staged scares and relationship tensions quickly becomes much more dangerous. The island setting hides real threats, while personal conflicts among the crew begin surfacing as the situation spirals out of control.

Firesprite says maintaining the identity of Until Dawn was a major priority during development. The studio highlighted elements such as character drama, meaningful choices, and horror sequences as important parts of the original formula that fans can expect to see return. Several members of the development team also described themselves as longtime fans of the first game, making the opportunity to work on the sequel an important milestone for the studio.
Gameplay information remains limited for now, though Firesprite has confirmed that additional details will be revealed later. Returning actor Peter Stromae is also expected to be involved, adding another familiar element for players following the series.

Since Supermassive Games is not handling development this time, there is growing curiosity around how much Firesprite plans to change the formula. The studio could introduce new gameplay systems, distinct narrative mechanics, or a fresh approach to player choice and survival-horror progression.
For now, Until Dawn 2 appears to be aiming for a balance between familiar horror storytelling and a new direction for the franchise. More information is expected in the coming months as Sony and Firesprite prepare for the game’s 2027 launch on PS5.
