Take-Two Interactive Confirms Grand Theft Auto VI is Still on Track for Fall 2025 Release

February 7, 2025

Take-Two Interactive has reaffirmed that “Grand Theft Auto VI” remains scheduled for release in the fall of 2025. The confirmation came as part of the company’s financial report for the third quarter of fiscal year 2025, where Take-Two detailed its upcoming slate of major releases and financial outlook.

The report highlighted that 2025 is expected to be one of the strongest years for the publisher, with “Mafia: The Old Country” launching in the summer, followed by “Grand Theft Auto VI” in the fall, and “Borderlands 4” also in the pipeline. With “GTA VI” being one of the most anticipated titles in gaming history, Take-Two’s reaffirmation of its launch timeline provides clarity amid speculation regarding potential delays.

In addition to confirming the release window for “Grand Theft Auto VI,” Take-Two also provided updated sales figures for its key franchises. The “Grand Theft Auto” series has now sold over 440 million copies, with “Grand Theft Auto V” accounting for nearly half of that figure, having surpassed 210 million units sold. The enduring popularity of “GTA V” is evident, given its continued presence in best-selling charts across multiple platforms since its initial launch in 2013.

The “Red Dead Redemption” series has also achieved significant commercial success, with total sales exceeding 95 million units. The bulk of these sales come from “Red Dead Redemption 2,” which has now surpassed 70 million units globally. The game remains the second best-selling title in the United States based on both unit sales and dollar revenue. Additionally, Take-Two reported that the “NBA 2K” franchise has now surpassed 155 million copies sold, maintaining its position as one of the company’s leading revenue generators.

Looking ahead, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the company’s plans regarding Nintendo’s next-generation console. Speaking in an earnings call, Zelnick expressed Take-Two’s intention to support the “Nintendo Switch 2” and highlighted the publisher’s long-standing relationship with Nintendo. While specifics were not disclosed, Zelnick noted that modern Nintendo hardware has evolved to accommodate a broader audience, suggesting that Take-Two may bring a wider variety of titles to the upcoming platform.

Despite the possibility of unforeseen delays, “Grand Theft Auto VI” remains poised to be one of the most significant game releases in history. The game’s launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S is expected to set new industry benchmarks, potentially making it the largest entertainment release of all time. Given the continued demand for “Grand Theft Auto” titles and Rockstar Games’ reputation for delivering high-quality open-world experiences, expectations for “GTA VI” remain high as its release approaches.
