MediaTek Introduces New Genio Platforms for Edge AI and IoT Devices

At Embedded World, MediaTek introduced several new additions to its Genio family of IoT platforms. The announcement includes the Genio Pro series alongside the Genio 420 and Genio 360 platforms, which are designed to support a range of embedded and edge AI applications across industrial, commercial, and smart device markets. The new platforms expand the company’s portfolio for developers building systems that rely on local AI processing, multimedia capabilities, and flexible operating system support.

The Genio Pro series represents MediaTek’s higher-performance offering for advanced IoT workloads. The platform is built on TSMC’s 3 nm process and features an Arm v9.2 CPU configuration with one Cortex-X925 core, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. MediaTek states that this configuration delivers up to 260K DMIPS of compute performance. Graphics processing is handled by the Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU, which provides up to 3.1 TFLOPS of compute capability for graphics and parallel workloads.

The platform also integrates MediaTek’s eighth-generation NPU capable of delivering more than 50 TOPS of AI performance for system-level generative AI processing. Through the company’s NeuroPilot framework, the platform supports common AI development environments, including PyTorch, ONNX Runtime, and TensorFlow Lite. MediaTek says the platform can achieve token generation rates of up to 23 tokens per second when running large language models with up to seven billion parameters.

The Genio Pro platform also includes multimedia and sensor support aimed at robotics, drones, and machine vision systems. It can connect up to 16 camera sensors, allowing complex camera fusion setups used in robotics and industrial automation. For display output, the chip supports up to three 4K displays along with 8K30 multi-format video encoding and decoding. Memory support includes discrete 64-bit LPDDR5X running at speeds up to 8533 Mbps.

For software environments, the platform supports several Linux distributions, including Ubuntu, Debian, and Yocto. It also supports ROS 2, which is commonly used for robotics development. Additional connectivity features include PCIe Gen 4, USB interfaces, and dual 2.5GbE networking, while the chip is rated for industrial temperature ranges from -40°C to 105°C.

Alongside the flagship platform, MediaTek introduced the Genio 420, built on a 6 nm process and aimed at mid-range IoT deployments. The chip provides up to 7.2 TOPS of system-level AI acceleration and supports up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X memory. It offers flexible display configurations, including dual 2.5K displays at 60Hz or a single display supporting UW5K60 or 4K60 resolution. The Genio 420 is designed to remain pin-compatible with the Genio 720 and Genio 520, allowing manufacturers to reuse existing board designs across multiple products.

MediaTek also announced the Genio 360 and Genio 360P platforms, which target entry-level IoT devices that still require on-device AI capabilities. The Genio 360 provides up to 6 TOPS of AI performance, while the Genio 360P increases that figure to 8.5 TOPS. Both platforms support generative AI workloads for models with up to two billion parameters and include display support for either a single 4K60 output or dual Full HD displays.

The Genio 360 series supports up to 8 GB of LPDDR4X-3733 memory and includes multimedia encoding and decoding features for connected devices and embedded displays. These platforms are aimed at applications such as smart home hubs, retail kiosks, and compact industrial systems.

MediaTek confirmed that the Genio Pro platform will begin sampling to customers in the first quarter of 2026, with production expected to follow in the third quarter of the year. The Genio 420 platform is scheduled to start sampling in April 2026, while the Genio 360 series is already available to partners.
