Jsaux Teases E-Ink and LCD Front Display Concepts for Valve’s Upcoming Steam Machine

Valve’s announcement of the upcoming Steam Machine has already sparked interest across the PC gaming community, and accessory makers appear to be preparing for the device well ahead of its release. Not long after Valve showcased a prototype featuring a front e-ink panel, Jsaux published its own preview image on Reddit, presenting two early concepts that could eventually become front-mounted display accessories for the device.

The post displayed an e-ink option and an LCD option, along with the text “coming 2026,” signaling that these ideas are tied to the Steam Machine’s expected launch window. Jsaux asked users to choose which version they preferred, indicating that community feedback will help determine whether either design progresses into development.

Although the concepts remain early, the idea aligns with Jsaux’s history of experimenting with add-ons for Valve hardware. The company has developed custom plates, cooling modules, docks, and various upgrades for the Steam Deck, often relying on user input during the design phase. This approach has led to several accessories that target specific needs identified within the handheld gaming community.

Valve’s original prototype featuring an e-ink panel highlighted how low-power screens could be used for quick system information or status updates. If Jsaux pursues the e-ink design, it could follow a similar direction by offering real-time details without affecting system performance. The LCD version, meanwhile, may offer more flexibility, potentially supporting richer visuals such as live hardware metrics or personalized display content.

At this stage, Jsaux has not confirmed that either accessory will move into production. The Reddit post only indicates that the company is exploring ideas and collecting opinions before investing in a full design cycle. With the Steam Machine expected in 2026, there is still considerable time for Jsaux to refine its concepts, evaluate interest, and adjust plans based on community response.

For now, the preview serves as an early indication that third-party support for the Steam Machine is already forming. As discussion continues, users will likely see more accessory proposals surface as the device moves closer to launch.
