CI Games Confirms Lords of the Fallen 2 Will Be Self-Published After Ending Epic Games Publishing Deal

CI Games has confirmed a notable change in the publishing structure of its upcoming action RPG, Lords of the Fallen 2, stating that it has officially ended its publishing arrangement with Epic Games following a Separation Agreement signed in April 2026. The agreement releases CI Games from its prior obligations under the Binding Publishing Term Sheet established in mid-2024, effectively closing the chapter on Epic Games acting as publisher for the project.

Despite this shift, both companies will continue to maintain their existing technical collaborations, including ongoing support for Unreal Engine technology, Epic Online Services, and account infrastructure, along with continued participation in Epic’s broader ecosystem, including Fortnite-related integrations through separate agreements.

The change in publishing direction is widely seen as a move toward full self-publishing control for CI Games, which now assumes responsibility for the game’s distribution and commercial strategy. While the company has not explicitly confirmed additional storefront plans, the timing of the agreement has triggered speculation that Lords of the Fallen 2 may no longer remain tied to Epic Games Store exclusivity on PC.

When the game was first announced in 2024, it was positioned as an Epic Games Store exclusive, a decision that drew mixed reactions from PC players who preferred wider platform availability. With this new development, expectations are building around a possible future release on Steam, although no official listing has appeared so far.

CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski has previously hinted that distribution plans could evolve, suggesting that exclusivity arrangements were not necessarily permanent. This latest development appears to align with those earlier remarks, although the company remains cautious in outlining any platform expansion details.

Alongside publishing changes, development on Lords of the Fallen 2 continues under Hexworks, with the studio recently showcasing new community-driven updates, including additional female armor designs created in response to player feedback. Early gameplay impressions shared by the developers have been described as strongly positive, with internal comments indicating that recent showcases have aligned well with the studio’s design direction.

The game is still targeting a release window in August for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and the shift in publishing control is unlikely to affect the current development timeline. However, the long-term distribution strategy on PC remains one of the most closely watched aspects of the project as it approaches launch.
