Konami Confirms Castlevania Reboot Is in Active Development

Konami is bringing another of its classic game franchises back into focus. The company has confirmed that Castlevania is in active development as part of a broader strategy to revisit older franchises with strong followings.

The confirmation comes from Konami Representative Director and President Hideki Hayakawa in a recent interview with Nikkei Gaming. Hayakawa explained that Konami has spent more than five decades building a catalog of game properties, many of which continue to have dedicated audiences worldwide.

According to the executive, the company believes rebooting some of these franchises is a practical way to make better use of those properties. Castlevania joins Metal Gear, Silent Hill, and Momotaro Dentetsu among the franchises Konami is currently focusing on.

“We concluded that rebooting these properties would be an effective way to make the most of them.”

Hayakawa did not reveal which Castlevania game is being developed or explain whether the project will be a remake, a full reboot, or a new entry in the series. That leaves plenty of room for speculation, particularly given the number of classic Castlevania games that could be revisited.

Konami’s current approach also involves supporting multiple franchises at the same time. Rather than concentrating its resources on a single property, the company says it has built a structure that allows several IPs to move forward simultaneously.

Hayakawa also discussed Konami’s plans for platform support, saying that the company intends to release games across multiple devices when there is sufficient demand from customers.

“As long as there are customers for a given game, we will release it across multiple devices.”

That strategy could be important for Castlevania, a series with a long history across home consoles, handheld systems, and PC. A new release could potentially reach players on several platforms rather than being tied to one system.

The Castlevania announcement also comes at a time when interest in the Metroidvania genre remains high. The genre takes part of its name from Castlevania and Metroid, with games such as Hollow Knight, Blasphemous, and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown showing that exploration-focused action games remain popular.

Konami has also recently announced Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, giving fans another reason to pay attention to the franchise. However, the announcement does not indicate whether that project is connected to the Castlevania title mentioned by Hayakawa.

For now, Konami has kept the details of its Castlevania project private. The company has not announced the game’s release date, platforms, developer, or the specific Castlevania title being revisited.

What we know about Konami’s Castlevania project:

  • Castlevania is actively in development at Konami.
  • Konami has not revealed which game or era the project will cover.
  • The company has not confirmed whether it is a remake or reboot.
  • Metal Gear and Silent Hill are also part of Konami’s franchise revival strategy.
  • Konami plans to support multiple platforms where there is customer demand.
  • No release date or platform list has been announced for the Castlevania project.

With Konami now confirming that work is underway, fans can expect more details when the company is ready to reveal the project. Until then, the biggest question remains whether Konami plans to revisit one of Castlevania’s most popular classics or use the franchise as the foundation for an entirely new game.
