Konami has revealed Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, a new mainline entry in the long-running Castlevania series, currently in development as a collaboration between Konami, Evil Empire, and Motion Twin. The project is scheduled for release in 2026 and will launch on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles through the Microsoft Store. An exact release date has not yet been confirmed.
Belmont’s Curse is a 2D action-adventure title that follows the successor of Trevor Belmont in 1499 Paris. Players will explore a looming castle alongside dark, atmospheric streets inspired by late 15th-century France. The protagonist wields the iconic holy whip, which serves both as a combat tool and a traversal mechanic, allowing players to cross gaps, interact with the environment, and engage enemies at range.
According to the game’s Steam listing, the combat system focuses on speed and precision. Players will have access to multiple weapons and abilities that can be developed over time, offering different approaches to encounters. Environmental puzzles are also a key part of progression, encouraging exploration beyond simple enemy encounters. The structure appears to blend traditional linear stages with interconnected areas, a design choice long associated with the Castlevania franchise.
Classic elements return in Belmont’s Curse, including secret chambers, hidden items, and demanding boss battles that test both timing and pattern recognition. At the same time, the art direction introduces a more colorful interpretation of the series’s gothic tone. The visual presentation reflects the influence of Motion Twin, known for its work on Dead Cells, while maintaining the darker atmosphere that defines Castlevania.

The involvement of Evil Empire, which previously contributed to post-launch support and expansions for Dead Cells and worked on The Rogue Prince of Persia, suggests an emphasis on tight gameplay mechanics and replay value. While it remains unclear how progression systems will be structured, early details point toward character growth and skill development playing a meaningful role.
With Belmont’s Curse, Konami continues its effort to expand one of its most recognized franchises. More gameplay details and a confirmed release window are expected closer to launch as development continues toward its 2026 debut.
