Treyarch and Raven Software have officially announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, continuing the long-running sub-series with a direct sequel to Black Ops 6. For the first time in franchise history, the Black Ops storyline will move forward in consecutive fashion, with the new entry set in the year 2035, over four decades after the events of its predecessor.
The upcoming title will place players in a world shaken by escalating global conflict and psychological manipulation. Following up on key events from both Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6, the storyline follows David Mason and his team as they confront a new threat that uses fear and psychological warfare as primary weapons. The game continues to explore the darker, espionage-driven themes that have defined the Black Ops saga while shifting the setting to a more advanced near-future world.
According to Matt Cox, General Manager of Call of Duty, the development team aimed to push the Black Ops narrative in a fresh direction while still retaining the core elements fans expect. “Our vision from the start was to create a back-to-back series experience for our players that embraced the uniqueness of the Black Ops sub-franchise,” Cox stated. He emphasized the importance of character depth, narrative complexity, and gameplay variety across all modes.
Black Ops 7 will launch with three main modes: a new co-op campaign, a refreshed multiplayer experience, and the return of round-based Zombies. The co-op campaign is designed for both solo and group play, offering missions that explore the fractured global landscape of 2035. Multiplayer will include new maps and weapons, taking advantage of near-future military technology. Zombies mode returns with a continuation of the Dark Aether storyline, which has become a staple for long-time players of the series.

The announcement came alongside an official teaser cinematic, marking the beginning of the game’s promotional cycle. Tyler Bahl, Head of Activision Publishing Marketing, noted that the back-to-back nature of Black Ops releases allows the development team to build on momentum from Black Ops 6 and keep players engaged. “This is the first time we’re staying within the Black Ops series with consecutive releases, so we’re excited to give players a bit more time to enjoy all the live seasons and provide players more of what they want,” Bahl said.
The teaser also offers a glimpse into the tone and direction of Black Ops 7, highlighting its psychological themes and futuristic setting. With the full reveal scheduled for later this summer, the development team has promised a series of teases and clues for fans to uncover in the weeks ahead.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be released on Xbox PC, Battle.net, and Steam, and will be available on PC Game Pass on day one. No official release date has been confirmed yet, but more information is expected to drop closer to the full summer reveal.
