Xiaomi has added a limited-edition smartwatch to its new product lineup, and the Watch S5 Transparent Edition is quite different from the company’s regular models. Announced during the Xiaomi 18 series launch event in China, the new smartwatch combines a transparent case with a 47mm design and Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0, while production will be capped at just 5,000 units.
The Watch S5 Transparent Edition sits alongside Xiaomi’s latest flagship smartphones but takes a different approach to the company’s wearable lineup. Rather than simply introducing another color option, Xiaomi has changed the case design and increased the size compared with the standard Watch S5.
The new smartwatch features a 47mm case, while the original Watch S5 uses a 46mm case. Xiaomi has paired the transparent housing with a stainless steel bezel, creating a design that exposes more of the watch’s internal styling while retaining a metal frame around the display.
The display is also protected by Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0. The company is positioning the material as a more scratch-resistant glass solution, which should help the screen withstand everyday contact with keys, bags and other objects.
The limited production run is likely to be the most important detail for potential buyers. Xiaomi plans to manufacture only 5,000 units of the Watch S5 Transparent Edition. The company has not announced a wider international release, so customers outside China may have to rely on imports if the model remains exclusive to the Chinese market.
Pricing is considerably higher than the standard Watch S5. The Watch S5 Transparent Edition costs CNY 2,499 in China, equivalent to roughly $372. By comparison, the original Watch S5 started at CNY 1,099, or about $163. Xiaomi also offered higher-priced Forged Carbon and Midnight Blue versions at CNY 1,299, around $193.
That puts the Transparent Edition at more than twice the launch price of the standard model. The higher price reflects its limited availability and different exterior design rather than a simple color change.
For Xiaomi fans looking for a smartwatch that looks different from the company’s standard offerings, the transparent case is the main attraction. However, with only 5,000 units planned and no confirmed global launch, availability could be the bigger challenge.
Xiaomi has not yet confirmed whether the Watch S5 Transparent Edition will be sold in other regions. For now, the smartwatch remains a China-focused release, with pricing and availability outside the country still unconfirmed.
