RAWM has announced the NYX60, a new 60% gaming keyboard that takes a different approach to the rapid-trigger keyboard market by using light-guided optical switches instead of Hall Effect technology. The company says the keyboard is designed for competitive gaming, with adjustable actuation, Rapid Trigger support, and an 8KHz polling rate.
Hall Effect keyboards have become increasingly common among gaming brands because they can detect key movement without traditional mechanical contact. RAWM is instead using an optical design that relies on light to track the movement of the switch. According to the company, this approach avoids interference from magnetic fields and reduces the effect of temperature changes on the trigger signal.
The NYX60 is built around what RAWM describes as light-guided optical switches. The company claims 0.01mm precision for both actuation and Rapid Trigger functions, allowing users to configure how far a key needs to move before an input is registered. Rapid Trigger is particularly useful in competitive games because it can reset a key as soon as it begins moving upward rather than requiring the switch to return to a fixed reset point.
RAWM has also included several input features aimed at competitive players. The NYX60 supports Rapid Trigger, Dynamic Keystroke (DKS), SOCD, and Mod Tap, giving users several ways to configure key behavior through software. The keyboard also operates at up to 8,000Hz polling, which places it alongside other high-polling-rate gaming keyboards currently available.
The keyboard uses a CNC-machined aluminum body with a tray-mount design. RAWM has added four layers of sound-damping material inside the keyboard to reduce internal resonance and the hollow sound that can occur with metal cases. The NYX60 has a 7-degree typing angle and uses polycarbonate keycaps in a Cherry-style profile.
RAWM plans to launch the NYX60 through Kickstarter on September 3. The keyboard has a listed MSRP of $199, while early backers are expected to be able to purchase it for $99. RAWM is also offering a $1 reservation option for users who want access to the early-bird pricing.
Alongside the complete keyboard, RAWM plans to offer a PCB kit for custom keyboard builders. This version is aimed at enthusiasts who want to use the NYX60’s optical technology in their own builds, although further details about the kit are expected around the campaign launch.
The NYX60 enters a market where Hall Effect and other magnetic keyboards are already well established. RAWM’s optical approach gives the company a way to differentiate the keyboard, but the claimed 0.01mm precision and signal stability will ultimately need to be evaluated through testing. Pricing will also be important, particularly once the $99 Kickstarter offer ends and the keyboard moves toward its $199 listed price.
