Microsoft Tests Unified Game Library for Xbox PC App, Adds Support for Multiple Storefronts

Microsoft has started testing a new feature in the Xbox app on Windows that allows users to see all their PC games from various storefronts in a single, unified library. This change is currently available to Xbox Insiders and aims to make managing and launching games more convenient by removing the need to open different apps or platforms.

The new feature supports games installed from Steam, Battle.net, Xbox, and Game Pass. Once a supported title is installed on your PC, it automatically appears in the Xbox app library, alongside recent games. This means players no longer have to switch between multiple launchers or remember which platform a game belongs to. The system scans the PC for eligible games and adds them to the app’s game list without requiring manual setup.

In addition to combining libraries, the app update includes customization options. Users can hide any storefront they do not use directly from the app settings, allowing for a more streamlined experience. This could be helpful for users who primarily use one or two platforms and want to declutter their game list.

Microsoft also confirmed that this feature will extend to handheld gaming devices later this year. The update is expected to arrive before the holiday season on devices like the ASUS ROG Ally and the upcoming ROG Ally X. These handhelds run Windows and support Xbox apps, making them a key focus for Microsoft’s efforts in portable PC gaming. With this update, users will be able to access their full PC game collection, regardless of the store, from a single interface while on the move.

The company says that support for additional storefronts will be added in the future, which could include platforms like Epic Games Store or GOG. This move reflects Microsoft’s broader strategy to make the Xbox app a central hub for PC gaming, not limited only to its own ecosystem.

To try the new feature, users must install the Xbox Insider Hub on their Windows PC, opt into the PC Gaming preview, and update the Xbox app. After joining, the app will begin showing games from the supported platforms in one unified list.

This development is part of Microsoft’s continued push to integrate services across its gaming platforms and make the user experience more consistent. By reducing friction between ecosystems, Microsoft hopes to make the Xbox app a more useful tool for all PC gamers, regardless of where they buy their games.
