Akko Launches U1 Series Switches With Improved Acoustics and Smoother Typing

As Akko prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary, the company has introduced the new U1 Series mechanical keyboard switches. The new lineup represents the next generation of Akko switches, bringing updates to materials, switch construction, and acoustic performance. Designed for both keyboard enthusiasts and newcomers to custom mechanical keyboards, the U1 Series focuses on delivering smoother keystrokes, improved consistency, and a more refined sound profile right out of the box.

The U1 Series uses a newly developed POM-blend material that retains the self-lubricating properties of traditional POM while delivering smoother and more consistent keystrokes. Akko has also redesigned the internal structure with a cylindrical stem and an optimized rail system. These changes reduce the rail contact area, creating a deeper, more focused typing sound while improving switch travel. The upgraded POM top housing also helps minimize spring ping and unwanted resonance, resulting in a cleaner and more refined typing experience.

Every switch in the U1 Series comes factory lubricated, allowing users to install them without additional manual lubrication. This helps reduce friction immediately after installation while maintaining stable switch performance across extended use.

The Creamy Yellow U1 receives additional structural refinements compared to previous versions. According to Akko, it combines the sharper feedback found in the V3 version with the deeper sound characteristics of the V5 version, creating a balanced typing experience that suits different user preferences. The revised internal design also improves switch stability across various keyboard configurations, making it suitable for users building their first custom keyboard as well as experienced enthusiasts looking for a reliable linear switch.

Akko has also improved RGB lighting performance by introducing a redesigned light-guiding column inside the Creamy Yellow U1. The updated design helps distribute light more evenly across compatible PCBs while reducing dark spots around each key. In addition, the company has switched to standard 100-switch packaging, making it easier for users to replace switches, complete full keyboard builds, keep spare switches, and simplify storage while reducing packaging waste.

The U1 Series also includes several additional switch options designed for different typing preferences. The Creamy Purple U1 improves stem stability and noise control to deliver a cleaner tactile response. The Piano U1 builds on the previous V3 Pro Piano switch with improvements aimed at smoother operation and increased stability for users who prefer linear switches. Meanwhile, the Crystal Silver U1 targets gaming users by offering faster actuation and quicker rebound for rapid key presses during competitive gameplay.
