8BitDo Announces FlipPad Mobile Controller for Android and iOS Ahead of CES 2026

8BitDo has announced a new mobile gaming accessory called the FlipPad, aimed at users who play games on Android and iOS smartphones. The controller is expected to be officially showcased during CES 2026, which is taking place this week, with a retail launch planned for later this year.

The FlipPad connects directly to a smartphone using a USB-C interface. Instead of relying on Bluetooth, the controller plugs into the phone’s charging port, which may help reduce input delay compared to wireless solutions. According to 8BitDo, the FlipPad is designed exclusively for games that run in portrait orientation, setting it apart from most mobile controllers that focus on landscape gameplay.

The design uses a flip-style mechanism that allows the controller to attach to the front of the phone after being connected. This layout appears to support one-handed or compact two-handed play, depending on the game. While 8BitDo has not shared full technical specifications, the physical layout of the buttons has been revealed.

The FlipPad features a black directional pad, along with burgundy-colored ABXY buttons. The Start and Select buttons are finished in gray, matching the company’s familiar retro-inspired design approach. In addition, there are six white buttons placed around the controller body. These are believed to function as shoulder buttons, triggers, or auxiliary inputs, although their exact roles have not been confirmed at this stage.

At launch, the FlipPad will support both Android and iOS devices equipped with USB-C ports. This suggests compatibility with newer iPhone models as well as a wide range of Android smartphones. However, 8BitDo has not yet released a list of supported games or platforms, nor has it clarified whether the controller will require custom software or system-level support.

Pricing details have not been announced so far. 8BitDo has only stated that the FlipPad is scheduled to become available in summer 2026. More information is expected to be shared during or shortly after its CES appearance.

With mobile gaming continuing to grow, especially in short-session and vertical-format titles, the FlipPad appears to target a specific segment of smartphone gamers. Further details on performance, compatibility, and pricing will likely determine how it fits into 8BitDo’s existing controller lineup.
