Xiaomi Launches $60 Smart Camera With Built-In Display for Video Calls

Xiaomi is giving its home camera lineup a new way to make video calls. The company has launched the Smart Camera Video Call Version 2 on Xiaomi Youpin, combining an 8MP 4K camera with a built-in 3.97-inch display and a motorized head that can rotate 360 degrees. Crowdfunding starts on August 26 at ¥429, which is roughly $60.

Unlike Xiaomi’s previous Smart Camera Video Call Edition, which relied more heavily on a smartphone for calls, the new model puts the screen directly on the camera. The 3.97-inch fully laminated panel has a 480 × 800 resolution, while larger physical buttons provide controls for starting and managing calls.

The camera supports two-way calls between the camera and a phone, as well as direct calling between two cameras. Xiaomi offers three ways to initiate calls: hand gestures, a physical button, and automatic linked calling. Two microphones and a large speaker handle audio, with noise reduction designed to improve voice clarity.

For home monitoring, the camera uses an 8MP sensor capable of recording at up to 3840 × 2160 resolution. Its motorized head provides 360-degree horizontal movement, while the camera can be manually tilted from 0 to 30 degrees.

Xiaomi also upgraded the processing hardware with a 1.5T chip that it says delivers 50% more computing power than the previous model. The extra performance is used for larger AI models covering scene and activity detection, helping the camera decide when an event should trigger an alert.
