Xiaomi has pushed its latest flagship hardware into a new performance and battery range with the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max. The new phone combines Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, capable of reaching 5GHz, with an 8,500mAh battery. It also brings a large 6.9-inch 120Hz display, dual 200MP Leica cameras, and a secondary screen on the back.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is among the first smartphones built around Qualcomm’s new 2nm flagship platform. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 uses Qualcomm’s latest Oryon CPU architecture and reaches up to 5GHz. Geekbench information cited by Notebookcheck shows two performance cores reaching 5.11GHz, while three other performance cores run at 4.03GHz and three efficiency cores reach 2.74GHz. The chip is paired with an Adreno 850 GPU.
Xiaomi has also changed the cooling hardware to match the higher performance target. The phone uses an OFFSET PoP package designed to improve heat transfer, along with a new cooling system. Xiaomi says the setup can maintain maximum frame rates for up to an hour during demanding gaming workloads. Actual gaming performance will still depend on the game, software, ambient temperature, and sustained power limits.
The battery is another major part of the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max specification sheet. It packs an 8,500mAh battery, making it considerably larger than the 7,000mAh unit used in the standard Xiaomi 18 Pro. The Pro Max supports 100W wired charging and wireless charging, giving the large battery a fast way to recharge.
On the front, the phone features a 6.9-inch display with a 2624 × 1208 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Xiaomi also lists up to 4,000 nits of peak brightness and very narrow 0.99mm bezels. A hardware-level privacy mode is included, allowing users to activate screen privacy without changing the display’s normal appearance when the feature is disabled.
The camera system uses three Leica-branded sensors. The main camera has a 200MP sensor with a 1/1.28-inch format, while the 3x periscope telephoto camera also uses a 200MP sensor and supports close focusing. A 50MP Leica ultrawide camera completes the rear setup. Xiaomi also introduces a new “Legendary Moment” imaging mode with local processing and additional AI-based photography features.
The rear of the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max carries a 2.9-inch secondary display, which can be used for notifications, widgets, camera controls, and other functions. The phone runs HyperOS 4 and includes additional on-device AI features, along with UWB connectivity and enhanced protection against dust and water.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max starts at CNY 6,999 in China for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration. The 12GB/512GB version costs CNY 7,999, while the 16GB/512GB and 16GB/1TB versions are priced at CNY 8,999 and CNY 9,999, respectively. Xiaomi has also shown a transparent red limited edition. The phone is already available in China, while international availability is expected to follow separately.
