Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons Is a New Single-Player RPG From Wizards of the Coast

Wizards of the Coast has revealed Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons, a new single-player, third-person RPG set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. The game was shown during Gamescom Opening Night Live, where developer Invoke Studios presented around eight minutes of gameplay and introduced the game’s main character, combat system, exploration mechanics, and supernatural abilities.

The story follows Kaatri, an experienced warrior who enters into a dangerous pact with Tasha, the Witch Queen, while searching for someone she has lost. The agreement gives Kaatri the ability to perceive raw magic across the world, opening access to forbidden spells, rituals, supernatural powers, and otherworldly weapons.

Magic plays a major role in both combat and exploration. During the gameplay presentation, Kaatri uses her new abilities against enemies while also relying on them to navigate the environment, open new paths, uncover secrets, and solve puzzles. This suggests that the abilities gained through her pact with Tasha will be used for more than simply dealing damage in combat.

The game takes players into Darkon and beyond the Mists, where Kaatri will encounter monsters, dangerous environments, hidden opportunities, and secrets connected to her journey. Players will gradually discover and develop new magical abilities, allowing them to combine different powers and weapons when dealing with the challenges they encounter.

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons also appears to put an emphasis on player choice during encounters. The combination of forbidden magic, spells, rituals, and weapons gives Kaatri several ways to approach enemies and environmental obstacles. The gameplay footage provides an early look at how these systems will work together as players explore the world.

The new RPG is being developed specifically as a single-player experience, giving Invoke Studios room to focus on Kaatri’s story and her relationship with Tasha. The project is still in development, however, and Wizards of the Coast has not announced a release date yet.

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is confirmed for:

  • PC via Steam
  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • Single-player, third-person RPG
  • Kaatri as the playable protagonist
  • Forbidden magic, spells, rituals, and supernatural weapons
  • Exploration and puzzle-solving across Darkon

There is currently no release window for Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons. More information is expected as development continues.
