Ubisoft has offered a brief but notable update on the status of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, a title that has seen a prolonged and bumpy development cycle since its initial reveal in 2020. Through an official post on the Prince of Persia X (formerly Twitter) account, the studio confirmed that work on the remake is ongoing, though there are still no new details on gameplay or a specific release date.
The message reads: “Yep, we’re still deep in the game – exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose. This game is being created by a team that truly cares, and they’re pouring their hearts (and a lot of coffee) into every step. Thank you for sticking with us.”
While the tone of the post is lighthearted, the message reinforces that the remake is still very much in production. Ubisoft also took the opportunity to promote its current title The Rogue Prince of Persia, a separate 2D rogue-lite adventure developed by Evil Empire, which is currently available in early access. The company described it as an alternative for fans looking to experience the franchise while waiting for the remake.
The update included a new piece of artwork from The Sands of Time Remake, showing the exterior of a building that longtime fans of the original 2003 title may recognize. However, the image provides no new insights into gameplay changes or the technical direction of the remake.
Ubisoft previously acknowledged that the remake is being developed with a higher standard in mind following negative reception to its first public showing. In response, the company pulled development from Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai and restarted the project under Ubisoft Montréal, the studio responsible for the original Sands of Time trilogy. That shift significantly delayed the timeline.

During Ubisoft’s most recent earnings report, the company confirmed a broad release window for the remake, stating it expects the title to launch by the end of March 2026. While this still falls within the previously mentioned “sometime in 2026” timeframe, it does narrow the window slightly.
The absence of new gameplay footage, developer interviews, or additional information during this year’s Summer Game Fest and the lack of a 2025 Ubisoft Forward showcase suggest that more concrete updates on The Sands of Time Remake may not arrive anytime soon. For now, fans are left to wait with the reassurance that the project is still in progress, though it remains unclear when they’ll finally get a closer look at the reimagined classic.
