SteelSeries Launches Aeon Pro Wireless Controller With OLED Screen and Replaceable Batteries at $259.99

SteelSeries is entering the premium game controller market with a product that skips the usual budget and mid-range segments. The company has launched the Aeon Pro wireless controller for $259.99, targeting Xbox and PC gamers with Hall effect controls, mechanical buttons, an OLED display, and a replaceable battery system.

At $259.99, the SteelSeries Aeon Pro goes up against some of the most established premium controllers available today. Its biggest selling point is the combination of features rather than a completely new controller design. The small OLED display provides access to connection modes for Xbox, PC, and Bluetooth, while also allowing users to change several settings without opening the SteelSeries GG software.

Players can use the controller’s display to switch between game presets, remap buttons, and adjust vibration sensitivity. More advanced options, including joystick dead-zone settings and profile creation, still require a PC and the SteelSeries GG application.

The Aeon Pro also uses Hall effect joysticks and triggers, which avoid the conventional potentiometer design used in many controllers. Most of the controller’s input buttons rely on mechanical switches, giving them a more pronounced tactile response. The triggers feature two travel settings, allowing users to shorten the travel for a faster, mouse-like click.

However, the most useful feature could be the replaceable battery system. SteelSeries includes two batteries, each rated for roughly 12 hours of operation. While one battery is installed, the other can be charged using the included wireless base station. The batteries are also shared with several of SteelSeries’ premium headset products.

The wireless base station has two USB-C connections, allowing users to connect an Xbox and PC simultaneously. It can automatically switch between the two sources, or users can select the connection manually from the controller.

There are four built-in rear paddles, although they cannot be removed. SteelSeries says the fixed design helps avoid the looseness and movement that can occur with modular paddle systems.

The $259.99 price remains the biggest hurdle. Valve’s Steam Controller is considerably cheaper at $99, while Sony’s DualSense Edge costs $60 less. The 8BitDo Ultimate 3E is another alternative at $149.99, offering several premium features and modular components.

For SteelSeries, however, the Aeon Pro marks a serious entry into a controller market where the company has previously had limited presence. Whether gamers are willing to pay $259.99 will likely depend on how much value they place on the OLED interface, dual-battery setup, Hall effect hardware, and mechanical controls.
