Sony Reveals DualSense Icon Blue Special Edition Controller for PlayStation 5

Sony has officially introduced the DualSense Icon Blue Special Edition, a new color variant of the PlayStation 5 controller. The design draws inspiration from the signature blue light that has long been part of the PlayStation identity, tracing back to the PS4 generation. The new edition adds a layered mix of blue shades across the grips and lower shell, complemented by a glossy touchpad decorated with the PlayStation symbols.

The Icon Blue DualSense controller is set to launch on October 20 in the United States and Canada, followed by October 28 in Mexico and Chile. Sony has confirmed regional pricing at $84.99 USD, CA$109.99, MXN $1,899, and CLP $93,490. Availability will be limited to Walmart stores and Walmart’s official website across these markets.

One of the small but meaningful details added by Sony’s design team is a set of Katakana characters on the back of the controller, spelling out “PlayStation” in Japanese. This element is meant to pay homage to the brand’s Japanese heritage and its long history in gaming. Leo Cardoso, representing Sony’s Color, Material, and Finish design group, explained that the new color aims to reflect the anticipation players feel when powering on the console and seeing the familiar blue glow that signifies the start of a gaming session.

The Icon Blue retains all the standard DualSense features that have defined Sony’s latest controller lineup. These include haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, motion controls, a built-in microphone, a 3.5mm audio jack, and USB-C connectivity. The controller remains fully compatible with the PlayStation 5, as well as PC and supported mobile devices, offering flexible use across different platforms.

Sony’s release of the Icon Blue controller is part of the company’s ongoing PlayStation 30th anniversary celebration, which began on September 9. The anniversary marks three decades since the original PlayStation console debuted in Japan, shaping the gaming industry with its technology and software library. At this time, Sony has not announced any plans to expand the Icon Blue edition’s availability to other regions outside North and Latin America.

This latest addition joins the expanding DualSense lineup, which includes colors such as Midnight Black, Starlight Blue, Cosmic Red, Galactic Purple, and several limited-edition models tied to major game releases. The consistent addition of new color options reflects Sony’s focus on personalization and design variety for its accessories.

In related developments, Sony has also launched the WH-1000XM6 headphones in India, further extending its premium audio portfolio. The new model continues Sony’s approach of combining high-quality sound with enhanced active noise cancellation, appealing to both music enthusiasts and PlayStation users seeking an immersive experience.

The release of the Icon Blue DualSense controller adds another collectible to the PlayStation ecosystem, blending visual identity with functionality. For long-time PlayStation fans, it symbolizes both the platform’s history and its ongoing evolution as the brand moves further into its 30th year.
