Resident Evil 9 Likely to Be Unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2025, Says Reliable Insider

CAPCOM may be preparing to officially reveal Resident Evil 9 during the upcoming Summer Game Fest on June 6th, according to a well-known industry insider. The next mainline entry in the long-running survival horror series has reportedly reached a stage where internal discussions and activity suggest a public announcement is imminent.

The claim comes from Dusk Golem, a name familiar to fans of the franchise for accurately leaking information about past Resident Evil titles. In a recent post on X, Dusk Golem stated they are “95% sure” that Resident Evil 9 will be shown during the event, although they stopped short of providing full confirmation. According to the insider, the level of internal chatter and movement behind the scenes is consistent with what typically precedes a game reveal of this magnitude.

The development history of Resident Evil 9 has seen significant changes over the years. Initial work on the game began in 2017, during a period when CAPCOM was reacting to slower sales of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard. Early concepts pointed toward a more open-world and multiplayer-oriented experience, quite different from the isolated and atmospheric gameplay that defined its predecessor. This early version of the project was intended to steer the series in a new direction.

However, by 2021, CAPCOM made the decision to reboot development. The multiplayer-focused approach was largely abandoned, and the project was restructured around a new vision. While few official details are available, sources indicate that some elements of the original concept have been retained. One notable aspect is the reported inclusion of Leon S. Kennedy as the game’s main character, which would mark his return as a lead in the series for the first time since Resident Evil 6.

Fans of the franchise have been speculating about Resident Evil 9 for some time, especially after the success of Resident Evil Village and the remakes of earlier titles. With CAPCOM’s continued support for the franchise and consistent release schedule, a 2025 launch for the new game appears likely if the reveal takes place as expected this summer.

Summer Game Fest has become a major venue for publishers to showcase new titles and provide updates on ongoing projects. This year’s show airs on June 6th, and if the insider’s claims prove accurate, Resident Evil 9 may be one of the highlights of the event. As of now, CAPCOM has not issued any official statements regarding the title.
