Kiwi Ears x Z Reviews Announce Serene Planar Magnetic Headphones

Kiwi Ears has announced its latest headphone release, the Serene, created in collaboration with the audio reviewer Z Reviews. The new model is designed to combine detailed audio performance with a durable and comfortable design. This release reflects Kiwi Ears’ ongoing focus on sound engineering and build quality, along with Z Reviews’ experience in evaluating and tuning headphones.

The Serene features a newly developed 72 mm x 89 mm planar magnetic driver housed within a fully enclosed structure. This design aims to deliver accurate sound reproduction with improved speed and control. Unlike most closed-back planar headphones that suffer from internal reflections, the Serene integrates a custom refractory filter and damping system to manage rear sound waves. This approach helps maintain clarity and balance while improving isolation for both studio and mobile listening environments.

The tuning of the Serene is centered around tonal balance across the frequency range. Its extended bass provides a solid foundation, while the flat midrange and refined treble response aim for a neutral and natural presentation. According to Kiwi Ears, this profile suits a wide range of listeners, including musicians, audio engineers, and everyday users who prefer precise and consistent sound reproduction.

Comfort and build quality have also been prioritized. The Serene uses soft vegan leather earcups and a fully lined headband, supported by a lightweight composite polymer and aluminium frame. Dual pivot joints allow the earcups to move freely for a comfortable and secure fit. The materials and construction are intended to provide both durability and long listening comfort.

To maintain signal integrity, the Serene uses a wired connection. This eliminates wireless compression and ensures compatibility with a range of devices, including DACs, amplifiers, and portable players. The detachable cable design also supports future customization and easy replacement.
