Keychron has expanded its HE 8K keyboard series with the launch of the Q5 HE 8K, a compact 1800-layout mechanical keyboard designed for gamers and productivity users who prefer a smaller footprint without sacrificing functionality. The new keyboard joins the existing Q1 HE, Q3 HE, and Q6 HE models, offering many of the same premium features in a slightly reduced size.

The Q5 HE 8K is constructed with a full metal frame and uses polyurethane foam gasket mounts, providing a solid and durable typing experience. Its OSA profile double-shot PBT keycaps ensure long-lasting performance and a consistent feel. Measuring 408 mm in length, the Q5 HE 8K is shorter than the full-size Q6 HE 8K at 446 mm, yet it only loses five keys. Unlike many compact layouts, it retains a full-size zero key on the num pad, making it more practical for everyday use.

The Q5 HE 8K includes a row of programmable macro keys above the num pad and a dedicated programmable knob, providing quick customization and control for gaming or workflow tasks. It operates in a wired-only configuration, keeping the front height to 20.6 mm, and supports an 8 kHz polling rate along with analog input functions, consistent with other models in the 8K series.

Through the Keychron Launcher web app, users can remap keys, configure macros, and adjust analog functions, including SOCD, DKS, Rapid Trigger, and controller emulation. Hardware, OS, and profile switches are conveniently located near the USB-C port for easy access.
The Q5 HE 8K is currently available on the Keychron website in black and white color options for $239.99. While a release on Amazon has not yet been confirmed, it is expected in the future. With its compact design, premium build, and programmable features, the Q5 HE 8K offers a versatile option for gamers and power users seeking a smaller mechanical keyboard without sacrificing key functionality.
