Keychron Launches K2 Ultra 8K and K8 Ultra 8K Mechanical Keyboards with 8K Polling and Long Battery Life

Keychron has announced two new mechanical keyboards, the K2 Ultra 8K and K8 Ultra 8K, expanding its lineup with models aimed at both gamers and productivity users. Priced at $119.99 each, the new keyboards combine high-speed wireless performance, customizable hardware, and premium materials in compact form factors.

The K2 Ultra 8K features a 75% layout that saves desk space while retaining essential keys, whereas the K8 Ultra 8K adopts a larger 80% tenkeyless layout for users who prefer a more traditional keyboard arrangement. Both models share the same internal hardware and feature set, offering flexibility based on layout preference rather than functionality differences.

The keyboards support an 8,000Hz polling rate, allowing them to communicate with a connected system more frequently than conventional mechanical keyboards. This helps minimize input latency during gaming. Keychron has also included ZMK firmware, enabling wireless-focused customization, advanced key remapping, and a broader range of configuration options.

The keyboards support tri-mode connectivity, allowing users to switch between wired USB, Bluetooth, and 2.4GHz wireless connections. This makes them suitable for multi-device setups, whether used with desktop PCs, laptops, tablets, or other compatible devices. According to Keychron, battery life can reach up to 760 hours under specific usage conditions, reducing the need for frequent charging.

The chassis combines CNC-machined aluminum alloy with ABS plastic construction. Inside, the keyboards feature a hot-swappable PCB that allows users to install compatible switches without soldering. Keychron has also included RGB lighting, an integrated steel positioning plate, and a six-layer damping structure designed to improve typing acoustics and reduce unwanted vibrations.

Both keyboards ship with Keychron’s Apex series mechanical switches. These switches use a transparent polycarbonate top housing, POM stems, and nylon bottom housings. The reinforced stem design is intended to improve switch stability and minimize key wobble during daily use.

Available switch options include:

  • Apex Red Switch – Linear operation with a smooth keypress feel.
  • Apex Brown Switch – Light tactile feedback suitable for mixed gaming and typing workloads.
  • Apex Banana Switch – More pronounced tactile feedback for users who prefer a stronger bump during actuation.

The keyboards are equipped with OSA-profile double-shot PBT keycaps. PBT material is known for better resistance to wear and shine compared to traditional ABS keycaps, helping maintain texture and appearance over long-term use.

Key Features:

  • 75% layout (K2 Ultra 8K) and 80% TKL layout (K8 Ultra 8K)
  • 8,000Hz polling rate support
  • Tri-mode connectivity (USB, Bluetooth, and 2.4GHz wireless)
  • Up to 760 hours of wireless battery life
  • ZMK firmware support
  • Hot-swappable PCB design
  • CNC aluminum alloy and ABS construction
  • RGB backlighting
  • Six-layer internal damping structure
  • Keychron Apex Red, Brown, and Banana switch options
  • Double-shot PBT OSA-profile keycaps

With a competitive price point and a feature set focused on customization, wireless performance, and durability, the Keychron K2 Ultra 8K and K8 Ultra 8K are positioned as new options for users looking for mechanical keyboards that can handle both gaming and everyday productivity tasks.
