Keychron has introduced two new wireless keyboards that bring its Alice-style layout to a scissor-switch design. The new B39 and B40 are aimed at users who want a quieter keyboard for work and everyday typing, while still getting an ergonomic layout, programmable controls, and multi-device connectivity.
The two models share most of their hardware, but they target slightly different desk setups. The Keychron B40 uses a compact 75% Alice layout, while the B39 has a larger 96% layout with a dedicated number pad. Both keyboards include five programmable M1-M5 macro keys and a customizable control knob, giving users additional options for shortcuts and media controls.
Instead of mechanical switches, Keychron has equipped the keyboards with low-profile scissor switches. The design is intended to provide a quieter typing experience while offering more key travel than a typical laptop-style keyboard. The Alice layout divides the keyboard into angled sections, positioning the left and right sides differently for typing.
Wireless connectivity includes 2.4GHz, Bluetooth 5.2, and USB-C wired modes. The 2.4GHz connection supports a 1000Hz polling rate, while Bluetooth supports connections to up to three devices. A USB-C connection is available when users want a wired setup.
Battery life is another focus. Both keyboards use an 800mAh battery. Keychron rates the B40 for up to 520 hours of use over 2.4GHz wireless, while the B39 is rated for up to 500 hours under the same conditions. Actual battery life will depend on usage and connection settings.
Keychron also supports its browser-based Launcher software, which lets users remap keys, configure the macro buttons, and assign different functions to the control knob. The keyboards support Windows, macOS, and Linux, with the ability to switch between Windows and Mac layouts.
The Keychron B40 is priced at $49.99, while the larger B39 costs $54.99. Both models are available in Deep Black. The B40 is the better fit for users who want a smaller keyboard, while the B39 keeps a number pad for spreadsheet work and other tasks that rely on frequent numerical input.
