Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed the release of a limited edition DualSense wireless controller to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the God of War franchise. The announcement was made during the September 2025 State of Play broadcast, highlighting the controller’s design that draws inspiration from Kratos, the series’ central character.
The controller features a gray finish symbolizing Kratos’ ashen skin, paired with a bold red marking that reflects his iconic tattoo. Santa Monica Studio’s Associate Art Director, Dela Longfish, explained that the team aimed to capture one of the most recognizable aspects of Kratos’ design, bridging his journey across both Greek and Norse mythologies.
“When we were deciding how best to embody the series, we immediately thought the form of the controller lent itself perfectly to Kratos’ omega tattoo,” Longfish said. “The shape of his red ink against the gray of his ash-covered skin is one of the most iconic elements of Kratos’ look across both sagas. Our team made sure to represent both of these key tones in the color selection for the controller to make every aspect an authentic homage to the design that has defined Kratos for over two decades.”
The DualSense wireless controller – God of War 20th Anniversary Limited Edition – will be available in limited quantities for $84.99 / €84.99 / £74.99 / ¥12,480. Pre-orders begin on October 3, 2025, at 10 a.m. local time through direct.playstation.com (in supported regions) and participating retailers worldwide. First launched in 2005 on PlayStation 2, the God of War series has spanned four console generations, two handheld systems, and more than a dozen titles. The special edition DualSense controller marks two decades of Kratos’ presence in gaming and serves as a collector’s item for long-time fans of the franchise.
