Gears of War: Reloaded is set to release on August 26, 2025, bringing a complete and updated version of the original game to today’s consoles and PCs. Originally released in 2006, Gears of War became one of the defining third-person shooters of its time. With this new version, players will be able to experience the full game with improved graphics, performance upgrades, and expanded platform support.
The remaster includes all content from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, along with every piece of post-launch downloadable content. This means players will have access to the extra campaign chapter, all multiplayer maps and modes, and a full set of characters and cosmetics, all available from the start and unlockable through gameplay.

Gears of War: Reloaded is being developed by The Coalition, in collaboration with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief. The game will be priced at $39.99 and available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam. It will also be included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at launch. Those who play on Xbox Series X|S and PC can take advantage of Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing access across both platforms with a single purchase.
This version of the game has been updated to support 4K resolution, 60 frames per second in the campaign, and up to 120 frames per second in multiplayer. Additional features include high dynamic range (HDR), Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos for enhanced visuals and audio. Other technical improvements include faster loading times, improved shadows and reflections, better antialiasing, and enhanced textures throughout the game.

The campaign supports two-player co-op, both online and via split-screen. Multiplayer supports up to eight players, with cross-play available across all platforms. While a Microsoft account is not required to play, signing in allows full cross-platform functionality, including cross-progression and the ability to play with friends across different systems.
Platform-specific features have also been added. Xbox players will benefit from features like Dolby Vision, while PlayStation 5 users can take advantage of the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. On PC, the game supports features like ultrawide displays and variable refresh rate, depending on the system’s hardware.
To thank long-time fans, Microsoft is offering a free upgrade to Gears of War: Reloaded for anyone who purchased the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before 16:00 UTC on May 5, 2025. Eligible players will receive a game code through their Xbox messages before launch.
As the series approaches its 20th anniversary in 2026, Gears of War: Reloaded serves as a modern way to revisit the game that started it all. With its updated visuals, new features, and support for multiple platforms, the game is positioned to introduce a new generation of players to one of gaming’s most recognizable franchises.
