A new FRITZ!Box is arriving at IFA 2026 with a redesigned chassis, Wi-Fi 7 and support for both fiber and DSL connections. The FRITZ!Box DSL/Fiber 7-90 is the first model in FRITZ!’s new generation of routers, combining up to 12.2 Gbit/s of Wi-Fi throughput with 2.5GbE networking and built-in smart home connectivity.
FRITZ! has redesigned almost every part of the router’s physical layout. The new model can be placed upright, positioned on the floor, or mounted on a wall, while a new cable-routing system moves the connections underneath the enclosure. The company has also reduced the controls to one button and a single LED, giving the router a much simpler appearance than previous models.

The design changes are not limited to aesthetics. FRITZ! has moved the ports to the bottom of the enclosure, allowing its 11 antennas to be positioned in the upper section. According to the company, this layout helps provide consistent transmitter performance regardless of how the router is installed.
The FRITZ!Box DSL/Fiber 7-90 also uses passive cooling rather than an active fan. FRITZ! says the router has an average power consumption of 12 watts, making it the company’s most energy-efficient model in its DSL and fiber performance class.
Wireless networking is handled by tri-band Wi-Fi 7, with the router reaching a combined theoretical throughput of up to 12.2 Gbit/s. The 6 GHz and 5 GHz bands each offer up to 5,760 Mbit/s, while the 2.4 GHz band provides up to 688 Mbit/s. The router also supports Multi-Link Operation (MLO) and Mesh Wi-Fi.

The router is designed to work directly with fiber connections, with or without an ONT, and can also be connected to an external fiber modem through its 2.5GbE WAN port. This makes the FRITZ!Box DSL/Fiber 7-90 suitable for users moving between different broadband technologies without needing separate router hardware.
FRITZ! is also adding DECT and Zigbee to the router, allowing it to act as a central hub for compatible smart home devices. These connections can be used for lighting, heating, energy management and other home automation applications. Telephone features include DECT, IP/SIP and one analog telephone port.
The software side is handled by FRITZ!OS 8.50, which brings access to VPN features, parental controls, guest Wi-Fi, FRITZ!NAS, media-server functions and other networking tools. The MyFRITZ!App can also be used to set up and manage the router.

The new model introduces more than a hardware refresh. FRITZ! is changing how it names its routers, with the new naming system identifying the connection type first, followed by numbers representing the Wi-Fi generation and product series. The company says this should make it easier to determine which FRITZ!Box model is designed for a particular broadband connection.
The FRITZ!Box DSL/Fiber 7-90 will be demonstrated at IFA 2026 from September 4 to September 8 at FRITZ!’s stand 111 in Hall 7c. The new design has also been nominated for the German Design Award.
For users looking for a single router that combines fiber and DSL support with Wi-Fi 7, multi-gigabit Ethernet, and smart home connectivity, the FRITZ!Box DSL/Fiber 7-90 brings several of these features together in a redesigned platform.
