After four years in production, husband-and-wife developers David and Sophie Younger of Inklingwood Studios have announced that their long-awaited adventure game, Foolish Mortals, will officially release on November 5, 2025. The hand-drawn point-and-click title pays homage to classic adventure games such as Monkey Island and Broken Sword, promising a full-length experience with modern refinements while maintaining the spirit of 1990s genre staples.
Foolish Mortals places players in 1933 Louisiana, a setting rich in folklore, mystery, and southern charm. The story follows Murphy McCallan, a young treasure hunter voiced by AJ LoCascio, known for portraying Marty McFly in Back to the Future: The Game, Han Solo in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and Gambit in X-Men ’97. McCallan’s search leads him to the island of Devil’s Rock, where a wedding mysteriously disappeared thirty-three years earlier—along with the secrets of the Bellemore Manor treasure.
Players will uncover the truth behind these events through exploration, puzzle-solving, and dialogue with a diverse cast of characters. The developers describe the tone as “spooky but cozy,” emphasizing atmosphere over fear, with no deaths, dead ends, or horror elements.

The game features more than 75 hand-drawn HD locations, complemented by a large number of paintings, letters, and documents that expand the world’s history. Over 100 items can be collected and used throughout the adventure, with a built-in hint system available for players seeking guidance.
The project includes 35+ fully voiced characters, directed by Francisco González, designer of Rosewater, Shardlight, and Lamplight City. The soundtrack adds more than two hours of original music, including an interactive big band performance tailored to the game’s tone and setting.

A German translation is being produced by Marcel Weyers, a veteran of numerous point-and-click projects, including Return to Monkey Island and The Drifter, ensuring accessibility for a broader audience.
For adventure game enthusiasts, Inklingwood Studios has prepared a Physical Big Box Edition that mirrors the collector’s packaging of classic 1990s PC releases. This edition will contain 15 physical items, offering fans of the genre a nostalgic addition to their shelves.
With Foolish Mortals, Inklingwood Studios continues the revival of hand-drawn narrative adventures. Blending traditional puzzle design, atmospheric storytelling, and a vintage aesthetic, the game looks to deliver an experience reminiscent of the genre’s golden era while appealing to new players discovering it for the first time.
Foolish Mortals will be available digitally and in physical form on November 5, 2025.
