A USB-C dock usually sits quietly on a desk and handles ports, displays, storage, and networking. Elecom is taking a different approach with the DST-L080BPBK, an 8-in-1 docking station that adds a large physical dial and four customizable buttons, giving users quick access to frequently used commands without reaching for the keyboard or mouse.
The Elecom DST-L080BPBK measures 74 × 87 × 59 mm and weighs approximately 250 grams, making it relatively compact despite its additional controls. The top of the unit features the large dial alongside four physical buttons. Through Elecom’s Mouse Assistant software, users can assign different functions to the dial and buttons according to their needs.

This setup allows the dock to serve as a small desktop control panel alongside its standard connectivity functions. Depending on how it is configured, the controls can be used for application shortcuts, media controls, volume adjustment, or other supported commands.
The dock provides one USB Type-C port and two USB Type-A ports, all supporting data transfer speeds of up to 5 Gbps. It connects to a computer through a USB Type-C upstream connection. A separate USB Type-C Power Delivery port supports up to 100 W of input and up to 90 W of output, allowing compatible laptops to receive power through the dock.

For external displays, the DST-L080BPBK includes an HDMI port capable of driving a display at up to 4K resolution and 60 Hz. The dock also includes SD and microSD card slots, Gigabit Ethernet, and a 3.5 mm audio jack, covering several common laptop expansion requirements.
Elecom lists support for Windows 10, Windows 11, and macOS Tahoe 26. The company plans to launch the DST-L080BPBK in Japan in early October at a listed price of ¥13,728, or approximately $87. Elecom has not yet announced availability for other regions.
The company describes the device as a combination of a docking station and a control interface, with the programmable dial and buttons providing an additional way to interact with a connected computer.
“The dial and buttons can be assigned to different functions depending on the user’s needs.”

For users working with creative applications, media playback, productivity software, or other programs that rely on frequent shortcuts, the additional controls could make the DST-L080BPBK more useful than a conventional USB-C hub. Its combination of 4K HDMI, 90W power delivery, Gigabit Ethernet, card readers, USB ports, and programmable controls also gives it a broader role on a laptop-focused desktop.
At this point, the DST-L080BPBK remains a Japan-focused product, and Elecom has not confirmed whether the dock will be released in North America, Europe, or other international markets.
