Corsair Upgrades RM850e and RM1000e PSUs With Safer 600W 12V-2×6 GPU Cable

Corsair is giving PC builders another reason to consider its RMe Series power supplies, with the updated RM850e and RM1000e models now shipping with a ThermalProtect PCIe 5.1 600W 12V-2×6 GPU power cable. The combination targets modern gaming PCs using high-power graphics cards, adding temperature monitoring to the GPU power connection while also upgrading the power supplies to Cybenetics Platinum efficiency.

The new package is particularly relevant for users building or upgrading a system around a current high-end GPU. The included 12V-2×6 cable can deliver up to 600W and features built-in Over Temperature Protection (OTP). Corsair has placed the monitoring hardware inside a cable comb around 30 mm from the GPU connector, allowing the system to track the cable’s temperature during operation.

If the cable temperature exceeds 65°C, Corsair’s ThermalProtect system activates and shuts down the GPU. This is designed to reduce the risk of damage caused by excessive heat at the power connection. The cable also uses dual-tone connectors on both ends, giving users a quick visual check that the connection has been properly seated.

The RM850e and RM1000e are now rated Cybenetics Platinum, an upgrade from their previous Gold efficiency rating. Corsair claims up to 91% overall efficiency, while the units retain support for ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 power standards.

Corsair has also kept the RMe Series compact at 140mm long, which should make installation easier in smaller ATX cases. The ZERO RPM Mode can stop the cooling fan under low and moderate loads, while the custom fan curve is designed to keep noise under control when the PSU is working harder.

The fully modular design means users only need to connect the cables required for their components. Corsair also includes flexible cables with debossed surfaces to make cable routing easier inside the case.

The new ThermalProtect cable does have one important requirement: the graphics card must use a native 12V-2×6 connector. It is therefore aimed primarily at newer GPUs rather than systems relying on older power connector configurations.

Corsair says the upgraded RMe Series Platinum power supplies are available now through its worldwide network of authorized retailers and distributors, as well as the Corsair webstore. Both the RM850e and RM1000e include a seven-year warranty, although regional pricing can vary.

  • RM850e and RM1000e capacity options
