Crysis 4 Could Be in Trouble After Another Round of Crytek Layoffs

The future of Crysis 4 is looking even less certain after Crytek reportedly carried out another round of layoffs across its studios in Germany and Türkiye. The reported cuts have not been officially confirmed by the developer, but sources speaking to Insider Gaming claim that at least 30 employees have lost their jobs in the latest restructuring.

The layoffs reportedly affected Crytek’s offices in Frankfurt, Germany, and Istanbul, Türkiye. According to the report, an entire quality assurance team at the Istanbul studio was dismissed, while employees working in social media, quality assurance, and publishing were reportedly affected in Frankfurt.

The reported cuts are significant because they arrive around 18 months after Crytek’s previous layoffs. In February 2025, the company confirmed a reduction in its workforce while also revealing that development on Crysis 4 had been placed on hold. At the time, Crytek said the decision was connected to the difficult conditions facing the games industry.

Despite the development pause, Crysis 4 was not officially cancelled. Crytek’s website has also continued to list the fourth mainline entry in the series among its projects. That listing has remained in place even though active development was reportedly suspended in 2024.

The latest layoffs could therefore be another warning sign for the long-awaited sequel. There is still no confirmation that Crysis 4 has been cancelled, and the current situation does not provide enough information to determine whether development could resume in the future. However, another reduction in staff could make it harder for Crytek to restart a project that has already been put on hold.

The studio currently has a more immediate priority in Hunt: Showdown 1896. The multiplayer shooter continues to receive support and has maintained a sizeable audience on PC. SteamDB data has shown daily peak concurrent player counts above 20,000, giving Crytek an established game that continues to attract players.

The reported layoffs appear to affect several parts of Crytek’s operations rather than being limited to a single development group. The main details currently available are:

  • At least 30 employees were reportedly affected.
  • Crytek’s Istanbul office reportedly lost an entire QA team.
  • Frankfurt reportedly saw cuts across social media, QA, and publishing.
  • Crytek has not officially announced the layoffs.
  • Crysis 4 remains listed on Crytek’s website despite its previous pause in development.
  • Hunt: Showdown 1896 remains in active development.

For fans waiting for another Crysis game, the lack of a new development update is becoming increasingly concerning. Crytek has yet to explain whether Crysis 4 remains part of its long-term plans, while the latest reported layoffs add another layer of uncertainty around the project.

Until Crytek makes an official statement, Crysis 4 should be considered a project whose status remains unclear rather than a cancelled game. The reported September 2026 layoffs, however, suggest that fans may have to wait considerably longer before hearing anything substantial about the next entry in the series.
