Razer wants to put rear surround sound directly behind your head without forcing you to wear a gaming headset. The company has announced the Razer Clio X, a wireless speaker head cushion designed for most high-back gaming and office chairs. The new accessory made its debut at PAX West 2026, where Razer presented it as a way to add rear audio to an existing gaming setup without installing conventional speakers behind the chair.
The Clio X combines THX Spatial Audio with Razer HyperSpeed 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity. Its near-field speaker system sits inside the head cushion and directs sound toward the user’s ears from behind. Razer says the design can add positional awareness and a wider soundstage to games, movies, and music without requiring headphones.
The speaker system uses two 38 mm full-range drivers paired with 55 mm passive radiators. Razer has angled the drivers toward the listener’s ears, allowing the cushion to deliver audio from the rear rather than simply acting as a conventional chair-mounted speaker.
THX Spatial Audio provides acoustic widening modes that are designed to make the soundstage feel larger. For games, this can help create a greater sense of direction around the player, while movies and music can benefit from additional depth. The Clio X can also work as a standalone speaker when users want to play without a headset.
Wireless connectivity comes through Razer HyperSpeed 2.4 GHz technology, allowing the Clio X to connect without running an audio cable between the chair and a PC or console. Power is supplied through USB-C, and Razer says the device can operate for up to 40 hours when used with a USB-C PD 2.0 power bank. The required power bank is sold separately, and battery life will depend on its capacity and usage.
The Clio X is attached to a chair using an adjustable nylon strap measuring between 30 and 65 cm. Razer designed the cushion to fit most high-back gaming and office chairs, giving users more flexibility than chair-specific audio accessories.
The device can also be used in Surround Mode alongside an existing soundbar or 2.0/2.1 speaker system. In this configuration, the Clio X handles the rear audio channel while the existing speakers provide the front audio, creating a surround setup without requiring dedicated rear speakers.
