NVIDIA’s leaked DLSS 5 Neural Rendering technology is being pushed far beyond its original hardware target, with modders now getting it to run on GeForce RTX 20-series and RTX 30-series graphics cards, older DirectX games, and even the PCSX2 PlayStation 2 emulator. The technology was initially discovered in an early-access build of NBA 2K27, but the community has spent only a few days finding new ways to deploy the experimental runtime across different hardware and software configurations.
The latest development concerns NVIDIA’s Turing-based RTX 20-series and Ampere-based RTX 30-series GPUs. Earlier testing used an FP8 implementation that was poorly suited to these older architectures and resulted in major performance losses. One RTX 3080 test in Deep Rock Galactic reportedly fell from around 138 FPS to just 4 FPS with the leaked Neural Rendering implementation enabled. Modders have now developed an FP16 version for RTX 20 and RTX 30 cards, which should be a better match for their Tensor Core hardware, although reliable performance figures are still limited.
The compatibility work has also moved beyond games that already have NVIDIA DLSS support. Modders have demonstrated DLSS 5 in Batman: Arkham Knight, a DirectX 11 title that does not include native DLSS support. Projects such as DLSS5-Feeder and RenoDX are being used to provide the rendering data required by the Neural Rendering system, allowing the leaked technology to work through a game that was never built around it. Other experiments have reportedly covered older DirectX and Vulkan titles as well.
Another unusual test involves PCSX2. Modders have shown Manhunt running through the PlayStation 2 emulator with DLSS 5 Neural Rendering enabled. This does not represent official NVIDIA support, but it demonstrates how the community is finding ways to place the leaked runtime between existing rendering pipelines and the final image.
The current results should still be treated as experimental. NVIDIA has not announced official DLSS 5 support for RTX 20 or RTX 30 GPUs, and the leaked runtime is not a finished consumer release. Performance can vary heavily depending on the GPU, game and implementation, while image artifacts and other issues remain possible. NVIDIA has so far presented DLSS 5 as an RTX 50-series technology, with the official release expected in fall 2026.
