Wooting has introduced a new App Linking feature in the latest beta version of Wootility, adding a layer of automation to its keyboard software. The update allows users to assign specific profiles to individual applications, enabling the keyboard to automatically switch settings based on which window is active.
The feature works through the Wootility Background Service and supports linking up to eight applications per profile. On supported keyboards like the Wooting 80HE and Wooting 60HE V2, users can store up to four onboard profiles. This setup allows profiles to remain accessible even without the software running in the foreground.
Wooting’s profile system covers a wide range of settings, including actuation points, Rapid Trigger (RT), SOCD, and analog input. It also extends to key mapping and RGB lighting. With App Linking in place, users can create tailored setups for different workloads. A profile with higher actuation and lower polling rate can suit general typing or browsing, while a gaming profile can switch to a 0.1 mm actuation point and 8 kHz polling when a game is launched. Creative applications such as video editors or CAD tools can also benefit from custom key layouts or macro-based inputs.
Alongside App Linking, the update brings small usability improvements. The RGB sleep timer interface has been refined, and users can now edit profiles directly from the system tray icon, reducing the need to open the full software.
There are some platform limitations. The feature does not currently work with Wayland due to its application isolation model. Wooting has acknowledged the issue and is discussing possible solutions with the community, including support for environments like KDE.
The App Linking feature is now available in beta, offering users early access to automated profile switching across different applications.
