Apple has announced its new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip, bringing improved CPU performance, faster graphics, upgraded on-device AI capabilities, and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. The new MacBook is designed for students, developers, business professionals, and content creators who need more processing power for demanding applications. According to Apple, the M6-powered MacBook Pro delivers up to 30% faster graphics performance and up to 25% faster on-device AI workloads compared with the previous-generation M5 model.

The Apple M6 chip features a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, with both gaining two additional cores over their M5 counterparts. Apple says the CPU includes the world’s fastest CPU core, while the GPU integrates Neural Accelerators into each core to improve AI processing. The chip also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, a third-generation ray-tracing engine, and Dynamic Caching technology to improve performance across supported applications.
Apple is also highlighting substantial gains for users upgrading from older MacBook Pro systems. Compared with the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1, the new 14-inch model delivers up to 13 times faster time-to-first-token performance for large language model (LLM) prompt processing. Apple also claims up to 11.7 times faster ray-tracing performance in Blender, up to 3.3 times faster image processing in Affinity, and up to 2.5 times faster code compilation in Xcode. These figures are based on Apple’s comparisons with the M1 model and vary by workload.

For AI-focused applications, the M6 combines its Neural Engine with GPU-based Neural Accelerators to handle tasks such as image generation, AI upscaling, and local LLM processing. The hardware also supports Apple’s Intelligence features and the new Siri AI experience in macOS 27, allowing supported AI workloads to run directly on the device.
The new MacBook Pro starts with 16GB of unified memory and can be configured with up to 32GB. Memory bandwidth reaches up to 170GB/s, helping the system handle demanding applications, multitasking, and large creative projects. Apple has also added Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, while the port selection includes three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, MagSafe 3, an SDXC card slot, and a headphone jack. The laptop supports up to two external displays.

The 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display offers up to 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Apple will also offer a nano-texture display option designed to reduce reflections and glare. Other hardware features include a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View, a three-microphone array, and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio.
Battery life reaches up to 24 hours, according to Apple, making the M6 model its longest-lasting MacBook Pro to date. The company claims users upgrading from an M1-based MacBook Pro can gain up to four additional hours of battery life, while Intel-based MacBook Pro users could see up to 14 additional hours. Fast charging is supported, with the battery reaching 50% in approximately 30 minutes when using a compatible higher-wattage USB-C power adapter.

“With the powerful M6 chip, we’re taking performance to the next level, with a boost in CPU speed and graphics and even more powerful capabilities for on-device AI,” said Shelly Goldberg, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering.
The MacBook Pro ships with macOS 27, which introduces new Siri AI capabilities, additional Apple Intelligence features, and improvements to Safari, Photos, and Shortcuts. Users can create automations through natural-language instructions, access AI-powered photo-editing tools, and use Siri across supported apps. The operating system also includes refinements to the Liquid Glass interface and additional appearance controls.

Apple says the new laptop contains 45% recycled material overall, including 100% recycled aluminum in its enclosure and 100% recycled cobalt in its battery. It is available in space black and silver, with prices starting at $1,999 in the United States and $1,899 for eligible education customers.
Pre-orders for the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 open October 28, with availability scheduled to begin November 6. The updated laptop combines higher processing performance, expanded AI capabilities, and longer battery life for users looking to upgrade from older MacBook Pro models.
