Backbone has officially launched the Backbone Pro Xbox Edition, a next-generation controller built for gaming across a wide range of platforms, including smartphones, PCs, tablets, smart TVs, and even VR headsets. The new model is designed from the ground up to deliver improved ergonomics, advanced connectivity, and better customization options for modern gaming needs.
The Backbone Pro Xbox Edition features two distinct connection modes. Players can connect via USB-C for low-latency wired gameplay or switch to Bluetooth Low Energy mode for wireless play, offering up to 40 hours of battery life. The controller weighs 199 grams and includes full-size ALPS thumbsticks, Hall Effect triggers for precise analog control, two programmable rear buttons, and laser-etched textured grips that enhance handling during long sessions.
The Backbone App plays a central role in the overall experience, bringing together multiple gaming services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming, Xbox Remote Play, Apple Arcade, Steam Link, and PlayStation Remote Play. With the new FlowState feature, users can switch between devices—including phones, PCs, and TVs—without the need to re-pair the controller each time, simplifying transitions between different platforms.

Compared to the Backbone One released earlier this year, the Pro version introduces significant design and functional updates. It now supports wireless connectivity, offers improved comfort, and includes customizable input options to adapt to different playstyles. According to Backbone, the design process involved more than 9,000 part iterations and 30 user research sessions. A 3D camera system was used to analyze hand positions and movements during thousands of hours of gameplay, helping the team refine the controller’s ergonomics and performance for extended use.
The Backbone Pro Xbox Edition also comes with a one-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, giving buyers immediate access to a large selection of cloud titles, including Forza Horizon 5 and Minecraft. This addition reinforces the controller’s compatibility with the Xbox ecosystem while maintaining flexibility for other gaming services.

The controller is now available for purchase at $179.99 USD through Backbone.com, Xbox.com, and Amazon. It will also be offered at Best Buy locations in the United States starting November 30. With its mix of advanced connectivity, premium components, and multi-platform support, the Backbone Pro Xbox Edition aims to deliver a unified gaming experience across devices.
