Project TAL: a New Open-World Action RPG Based on Korean Mythology Announced

Publisher WEMADE MAX Co. Ltd. and developer MADNGINE have officially revealed Project TAL, an open-world action RPG set to release globally on PC and consoles in 2027. The game aims to reinterpret Korea’s traditional Tal masks and mythology into a large-scale fantasy world filled with exploration, adventure, and fast-paced combat.

The announcement trailer provides the first look at Project TAL’s world and gameplay systems. It shows cinematic combat sequences where players can engage with large monsters in real-time battles. Players will be able to climb onto huge creatures, strike at weak points, and perform precise counterattacks. The focus appears to be on fluid movement and tactical decision-making, with the combat system designed to encourage a balance between offense, defense, and teamwork.

Beyond the action, Project TAL highlights a strong emphasis on companions. According to the developers, players will not face challenges alone. The trailer introduces a dynamic companion system, where intelligent NPC allies adapt to the player’s fighting style and environment. Each companion has a distinct personality and role in combat — from defensive support and ranged attacks to melee combat and magic. These companions will react in real time to ongoing battles, helping the player through coordinated attacks and timely interventions.

Sohn Myun-seok, CEO of WEMADE MAX, stated that the goal of Project TAL is to merge deep storytelling with immersive action. “With MADNGINE’s technical expertise and artistic vision, we’re creating a AAA open-world title built to compete on a global stage,” he said. This marks one of WEMADE MAX’s most ambitious projects yet, representing a step into the high-budget console and PC gaming market.

The game’s world draws inspiration from Korean folklore, reimagining mythical beings and cultural symbols through detailed environments and artistic design. Each region will offer different challenges, landscapes, and encounters that encourage players to explore and uncover hidden stories within the world of Project TAL.

Core gameplay systems will include climbing mechanics for large-scale battles, a weakness-targeting feature that shifts combat dynamics, and companion-assisted skill combinations. The developers aim to create a world that responds naturally to player actions, enhancing both narrative and combat depth.

Project TAL is currently in development and scheduled for a worldwide release in 2027. Further updates, including detailed gameplay footage and system requirements, are expected to be announced in the coming months.
