Dolby Laboratories has introduced Dolby Vision 2, the next phase of its HDR technology. Hisense will be the first TV manufacturer to include the format in its upcoming premium televisions, while CANAL+ will expand its content lineup to deliver programming in Dolby Vision 2.
For more than a decade, Dolby Vision has been used across televisions, streaming platforms, and content services to provide enhanced HDR picture quality. Dolby Vision 2 builds on this foundation with a redesigned image engine and new tools that make better use of modern display hardware while giving creators additional flexibility.
New Dolby Image Engine
Dolby Vision 2 features a next-generation image engine designed to improve brightness, contrast, and color reproduction on the latest high-performance TVs. When paired with Dolby’s content ecosystem, which includes films, series, live broadcasts, and games, the format aims to deliver consistent results across a wide range of viewing scenarios.

Content Intelligence Tools
A key addition in Dolby Vision 2 is “Content Intelligence,” a suite of technologies that automatically adapts picture settings for different environments and types of content.
Main features include:
- Precision Black: Increases visibility in dark scenes while preserving the creator’s intent.
- Light Sense: Adjusts brightness and contrast based on ambient lighting conditions.
- Sports and Gaming Optimization: Enhances motion clarity and color accuracy for fast-moving visuals.
Dolby Vision 2 also introduces bi-directional tone mapping, allowing creators to optimize content for both high-end and mainstream displays.
Beyond HDR Improvements
Expanding beyond HDR, Dolby Vision 2 debuts “Authentic Motion,” a motion control tool designed to reduce judder and improve cinematic presentation on a frame-by-frame basis.
Product Tiers
Dolby Vision 2 will be available in two versions:
- Dolby Vision 2 Max: Designed for flagship televisions with advanced display capabilities.
- Dolby Vision 2: Brings the new image engine and Content Intelligence to mainstream models.
Industry Adoption
Hisense will be the first TV brand to adopt Dolby Vision 2. Its upcoming RGB-MiniLED models, powered by MediaTek’s Pentonic 800 processor with MiraVision Pro PQ Engine, will support the format. Details on release timing will follow later in the year.
On the content side, CANAL+ has committed to supporting Dolby Vision 2 across its movies, series, and live sports programming, becoming the first media group to adopt the updated format.
