8BitDo has released a limited-edition mechanical keyboard to mark Apple’s 50th anniversary. The new model, called the AP50, is based on the company’s Retro 68 platform and draws visual inspiration from the classic Apple II color scheme, combining beige and brown tones associated with early personal computing hardware.

The keyboard uses a 68-key compact layout and adopts a gasket-mount structure to improve typing acoustics and provide a softer keystroke response. Construction focuses heavily on metal components, with aluminum used for the chassis, plate, and keycaps. The body measures 323.3 x 138.5 x 46.5 mm and weighs approximately 2.2 kg, making it heavier than most keyboards in this size category.
8BitDo equips the AP50 with Kailh BOX Ice Cream Pro Max switches. The PCB supports hot-swappable functionality, allowing users to replace switches without soldering. RGB lighting is integrated, and configuration can be handled through the 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2 suite or via on-device key remapping for faster adjustments.

Tri-mode connectivity is supported, including wired USB, 2.4 GHz wireless, and Bluetooth LE. The keyboard is compatible with macOS, Windows 10 or newer, and Android 9.0 or later. A 6500 mAh battery powers the wireless modes, with 8BitDo rating battery life at up to 300 hours depending on usage conditions. Charging time is listed at around nine hours.
The package includes a set of Wireless Dual Super Buttons, a 2.4 GHz receiver, and a USB cable. The additional input buttons measure 160.2 x 75.3 x 32.6 mm and weigh 270 g, offering programmable controls suitable for gaming or productivity shortcuts.

At $499.99, the AP50 is positioned as a collector-focused product that combines retro-inspired design with modern keyboard features. Its materials, weight, and limited-edition status suggest it is aimed at enthusiasts interested in premium construction and nostalgic design references from Apple’s early computing era.
